Also known as Ca Voi Xanh, the $10 billion Blue Whale Project is based in Deepwater block 118, 80km off the coast of central Quang Nam province.
The development would be Vietnam's biggest gas project and is expected to contain natural gas reserves of up to 283 bcm. The field is set to being producing gas for power production in 2023.
The field could eventually fuel four gas fired power plants with a capacity of 3GW.
Once more, 88km of pipeline is set to be built to connect the field to onshore facilities, with a gas treatment plant and power plant also set to be constructed.
