The West Barracouta Project is the latest in our client’s investments in the Gippsland Basin. Located in the VIC/L1 block offshore Victoria, this new project is approximately 6km south-west of the existing Barracouta platform and involves the drilling of two subsea wells within one petroleum safety zone.

The front-end engineering design work was completed in December 2018 when the final investment decision to develop West Barracouta was made. Seabed, environmental and geotechnical surveys were planned and executed earlier this year and our client plans to produce gas from West Barracouta for the Australian domestic market as early as 2021.

Our client has decades-long experience within the Gippsland Basin as the existing Barracouta project was the first offshore field to be discovered in Australia in 1965. Since then it has produced over four billion barrels of crude oil and eight trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
