Position Overview
The Principal Sourcing Specialist is responsible for independently processing operational procurement purchase requests for assigned business unit groups (Generation, Home, Corporate Shared Services, Business).
Key activities include:
• Identifying appropriate sources of supply for requested goods/services.
• Leveraging strategic agreements and qualified suppliers.
• Conducting RFQs, competitive pricing analysis, supplier selection, and managing purchase orders/blanket agreements.
This role operates within an operational procurement center, supporting requisitioners and suppliers in a team environment. The specialist will also coach and mentor junior procurement staff, balance workloads, and support complex purchase requests and project initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Process purchase requisitions into purchase orders with qualified suppliers and competitive pricing.
• Research potential sources of supply; conduct RFQs and pricing analysis per supply chain policies.
• Communicate with suppliers during RFQ, selection, and PO fulfillment.
• Coordinate with strategic sourcing to align with agreements and bid opportunities.
• Collaborate with requisitioners and suppliers to ensure clear communication of needs and capabilities.
• Monitor and report savings and performance metrics for business units.
• Engage suppliers on delivery confirmations, performance, and invoice processing to resolve issues.
• Update blanket agreements and pricing to maintain accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with procurement processes and procedures.
• Identify opportunities for enterprise-wide sourcing initiatives.
• Support outage planning and project-based procurement activities.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to junior team members.
• Lead process improvement initiatives, metrics reporting, and operational procurement projects.
Working Conditions
• Work at power plants and in open office environments.
• Occasional overtime for special projects.
• Travel required (10–20%).
Minimum Requirements
• High School Diploma.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• 5+ years of procurement experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Power BI).
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Engineering.
• 5–7 years of sourcing experience in NRG spend categories (Generation, Retail, Corporate).
• 1+ years of SAP application experience.
• ISM Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).
Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Prior supply management experience in power plant, corporate, IT, marketing, advertising, contact center direct sales, or similar categories.
• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills for engaging with team members, partners, suppliers, and management.
• Advanced technical skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power BI).
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage workload independently.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills for clear reporting and communication.
