We are currently recruiting a Drilling Fluids SME for Chevron Australia on an initial 12 month contract to join the team in Perth CBD office with occasional offshore travel.
The successful candidate must be able to support or respond to ongoing 24/7 well operations if or when required & represent Chevron Australia on Drilling Fluids + Waste Management network (Community of Practice), eg monthly conference call (networking) with Houston technology center and other Business Units Fluid Specialists.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of Field Fluid Engineers (up to 4).
Travel: Role may require up to 10% of time in the field e.g. Offshore wellsite, Barrow Island operations, Company office overseas or visiting business partners, auditing their field facilities etc
Job description:
  • Provides fluids system analysis & engineering support to meet Chevron Australia fluid and waste management obligations/regulations for Barrow Island as well as offshore operations.
  • Represent Wells function on waste management and discharge strategies including input and guidance to the Environmental Plans, Safety Case etc. such that Government licensing commitments and Company policies are adhered to.
  • Prepare and deliver fluids/waste management information in internal and partner workshops such as DRB meetings, project assurance reviews, stakeholder communications etc.
  •  Develop and evaluate rig equipment and feasibility concept alternatives.
  •  Prepare plans for field installations / rig modifications & equipment requirements. Prepare fluids and waste management tendering documents and conduct bidding to support Wells fluids and waste management requirements.
  •  Support Drilling & Completion fluids qualification and testing; working closely with the Fluids Company, Drilling / Completion Engineers and liaising with Chevron Technology Center Fluids Team.
  • Responsible for oversite and execution of the drilling & completions fluids programs. Completes post project reviews. Specialist will also assist and provide operational support to Drilling Superintendent for the ongoing drilling/completion program as required.
  • Assists with project execution through the operational phase, capturing lessons learned and looking for operational improvements.
Communication:
  • Ability to communicate across many functions including remote Wells team-mates and a multitude of diverse contractors.
  •  Fluent in IFO culture communication with skills to assure well site & shore base personnel understanding of the Tenets and Safe work requirements; effective job planning risk assessments.
  •  Requires predictable behaviors in a work environment.

  • Writes articulate / concise SOPs, well fluids and waste management programs.
  • Well-rounded in drilling fluids engineering and waste management processes.
  •  Skilled in planning drilling campaigns in various environments.
  • Well versed in best practices for well construction; efficient drilling/completion techniques and innovations to drive down drilling and completions costs. Capable of analyzing and solving complex well hole problems related to fluids / formation response.
Experience / Projects:
  • Strong knowledge of well planning and execution processes.
  • Ability to drive a defined process across multi-functional teams to reach an appropriate solution.
  • 20+ years drilling and completions operations experience is required, including a minimum of 10+ years as an in-house ‘Company / Operator’ Fluids Engineer/ Waste Management Specialist.
  • Variety of geographical and functional experience, including both deepwater floating drilling and onshore land drilling operations. Strong and proven well control comprehension is required with an understanding of operational discipline.
  •  Broad experience in all aspects of drilling fluids; completion fluids; work over and well services engineering, land and offshore drilling / completions operations.
Required Certifications:
  • Western Australia Driver’s License
  • Maintain APITO approved BOSIET when offshore operations ongoing
  •  Medical Clearance – fit for offshore + site work
  • May be required to attend / pass Chevron or Industry IADC Well Control training
