Fabrication and Quality Coordinator
12 Month Contract – Norwich
NES Fircroft are working with a major oil and gas company based in Norwich who are looking for a Fabrication and Quality Coordinator to join their team on an initial 12 month PAYE contract.
They are looking for a driven individual to take on the role of Project Fabrication and Quality Coordinator. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project engineering and construction team to ensure packages, fabricated items and equipment are managed through supply chain in line with project timelines and quality requirements.
You will liaise with the piping engineers and construction lead to tender fabrication scopes, and once quotations are received discuss with the Construction and Project Lead to award the PO based upon on cost and delivery that meets the project requirements.
Throughout the process until receipt by our client, you will have responsibility to maintain the fabrication tracker so that the current status is fully understood by the project team and any delays and/or risks are fully communicated and understood so that contingency planning, if applicable, can be implemented.
Post award, this position shall also perform the quality checks in line with the projects ITP but also all relevant codes and standards. These checks shall be via documentation reviews submitted by the vendor and will also include witness at suppliers or fabricators and approving release to our client. Support at FAT’s may also be required depending on packages being procured.
Site support may be required to provide independent quality reviews, both onshore and offshore. This may be through the construction phase when, for example, welding activities are ongoing or during system walkdowns and testing periods, such as hydrotests and nitrogen leak tests.
This position will help ensure that projects are appropriately managed to completion in a safe and efficient manner with all appropriate documentation available, quality checks and/or test are completed with sign off.
This is a 12 month contract position, primarily based in our Norwich office, however some onshore and offshore site visits may be required.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Raise fabrication RFQ’s and fabrication work instructions as required by the projects team
- Update and maintain the fabrication tracker for each ongoing project
- Close coordination with the construction and planning team to ensure correct materials, fabricated items and equipment are made available in line with the project plan
- Frequent contact with suppliers to ensure fabrication/delivery timescales are met, highlighting any issues to construction and project lead
- Witness container loading of critical equipment and fabricated items to confirm all present prior to arrival at site
- Undertake regular visits (based upon ongoing project activity) to fabricators to monitor progress
- Review and approve ITP’s for equipment and fabrication
- Witness and/or undertake stages from the ITP at suppliers and fabricators facilities
- Monitor and audit supplier and fabricator MRB’s through life cycle until handover to our client.
- Disseminate key information and documentation to the construction engineering team
- Completion of vendor document reviews via the document control system
- Interface with the business integrity department (materials and corrosion) to gain approval on WPS and WPQR’s ahead of fabrication commencing
- Liaise with vendors to resolve any delivery and/or quality issues prior to receipt
- Creation of NCR’s against suppliers and fabricators, also provide support in close out stage
- Provide on site QC support as required by the project when activities such as welding, hydrotest, leak testing and system walkdowns.
- Audit Guidance on Certification (GOC) documentation (or equivalent certification system) prior to handover of project modification to operations.
- Review of applicable SQ’s during the site execution phase to confirm engineering approval has been provided and SQ is closed out
- Support the projects piping engineers with the creation of PER technical files for IVB review
- Interaction with IVB during all stages of the project life cycle
- Liaise with vendors to resolve any delivery and/or quality issues prior to receipt
- Identify quality gaps in the current project processes and assist in the development of project quality processes, procedures and generation of standard templates
- Contribute to the lessons learned process for continual improvement of the projects team
- When required, provide cover for Construction Supervision, supervising our clients and contracted resources
- Strong experience of working within Oil and Gas project environment in a fabrication and/or quality coordinator facility
- Strong knowledge of API, AMSE, PESR (Pressure Equipment Safety Regulations 2016) standards
- Understanding and awareness of Mechanical Atex requirements, or willingness to learn
- Background in quality control and understanding of activities to ensure equipment meets the specifications and standards
- Strong interpersonal skills in order to work closely with the project team and external suppliers and fabricators
- Site based experience with regards to system walk downs, accepting on behalf of client and handover to operations
- Highly organised, accurate and methodical work ethic maintaining key project trackers
- Proven experience with fabrication, inspection and document management
- Proven ability to work to set priorities and deadlines within a project environment
- Hold Certification Scheme for Personnel (CSWIP) Welding Inspector Qualification (or equivalent).
