Job Title: Financial Analyst, Fixed Asset Accounting

Description:
As a member of the Fixed Asset Accounting team, the role is responsible for the accounting and reporting of exploration and evaluation assets and property, plant and equipment. Working closely with business unit stakeholders, the role is accountable for maintenance of the fixed asset subledger, recording of capital transactions, month-end close activities and reporting, preparation of account reconciliations and maintaining controls over financial reporting.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform accounting and reporting activities on a recurring basis to support an accurate and timely period-end close, including but not limit to:
  • Manage fixed assets by keeping track of all acquisitions, disposals, transfer of assets and maintaining the fixed asset subledger
    • Prepare working papers to support E&E and PP&E reporting
    • Perform month-end settlement and DDA run in SAP
    • Post accruals and journal entries as required
    • Complete reconciliations
    • Prepare financial reports and analysis
  • Support overall compliance with SOX processes and controls. Create or update process narratives.
  • Assist in Statistics Canada surveys, financial audit and tax filing activities
  • Involve in technology upgrades and changes related to fixed asset accounting
  • Identify and analyze possible improvements to processes and implement selected solutions
  • Be an active member of the Finance team; support peers, brainstorm issues, complete ad-hoc requests, and be flexible in completing any assigned projects

Competencies:
  • Knowledgeable in the application of International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Suite of products
  • Advanced experience with SAP, SAP-BW and Group Reporting is highly desired
  • Proven analytical skills and a continuous improvement mindset with the ability to communicate complex information into meaningful insights
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a team-based environment and execute in a time-constrained environment
  • Certified professional accounting designation (CMA, CA, CGA, CPA)
  • 5+ years experience in Accounting, Business/Financial Analysis
  • Financial reporting experience under IFRS
  • Oil and Gas accounting and reporting experience would be an asset
  • Previous experience with SAP, Group Reporting, and Excel highly desired
  • Proficient with MS Suite
