Job Description: Industrial Hygienist Specialist

Department: Safety & Occupational Health Department, HSE&Q Group

Job Purpose: To provide technical industrial hygiene support aimed at achieving production goals and ensuring safe construction activities by controlling health hazards in the workplace.

Reporting and Relationships:

  • Reports to: Head of Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene.
  • Internal: Regular contact with HSE&Q leadership team, Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene section staff, Manufacturing Asset Team, Facilities Management Team, and Development Group / Project Team.
  • External: Interaction with Contractors, Consultants, Supreme Council of Health, Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Qatar Petroleum (QP), and Ras Laffan City Staff.
Job Context & Major Challenges:

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health standards and international regulations.
  • Manage health hazards (physical, chemical, biological) in accordance with Company policies and government laws.
  • Influence operations teams to adopt sustainable solutions for minimizing health risks.

Generic Accountabilities - All Employees:

  • Support Qatarization Program by contributing to the development of Qatari employees.
  • Adhere to anti-trust and competition laws and Company firewall policies.
Key Job Accountabilities:

  1. Lead the development and implementation of Industrial Hygiene Program (IHP) to meet occupational health standards and regulations.
  2. Conduct Health Risk Assessments (HRA) and present findings to relevant teams, prioritizing health risks and proposing effective solutions.
  3. Develop Annual Exposure Assessment Strategy (EAS) and manage procurement of necessary equipment and consumables to support the program.
  4. Design and evaluate monitoring strategies for personal exposure assessments across onshore, offshore, and offsite locations.
  5. Evaluate workplace health issues raised by operations and projects, recommend control measures, and collaborate with Medical Department for medical monitoring.
  6. Conduct audits to assess compliance with IHP across facilities and identify areas for improvement.
  7. Establish engineering and administrative controls to minimize exposure risks and provide training on health protection measures.
  8. Develop and deliver training programs on various industrial hygiene topics, ensuring competency assessment for Qatari National NDP programs.
  9. Participate in shutdown planning to ensure adequate resources and specific EAS implementation, contributing to lessons learned processes.
  10. Identify process changes and improvement opportunities, develop action plans, and establish key performance indicators to support continuous improvement.
  11. Review safety assessments for new chemicals and recommend appropriate control measures to mitigate exposure risks.
Person Specification - Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemical/Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or Environmental Health Sciences.
  • Professional designation as an Industrial Hygienist (CIH, ROH, COH) and additional safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CRSP, CMIOSH) highly desirable.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in industrial hygiene/occupational health and safety, with at least 5 years in oil and gas or petrochemical/manufacturing sectors.
  • Proficient in English, computer literate (MS Office, environmental software), and strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and planning skills.
