Our Client
NES Fircroft have partnered with a global lithium producer who are currently ramping up their operation in South West Australia. Due to this, they are hiring an experienced Laboratory Manager to support their growing team.
 
The Position
The role of the Laboratory Manager is a key role within the business and will manage a large technical team from Superintendent to Lab Technician. You will be responsible for the overall operation and administration of the Laboratory, implementing a quality system approach to laboratory testing that ensures the delivery of accurate and reliable test results to support the plant to achieve productivity and desired output.
 
The position is a staff based residential role working Monday – Friday based on site. The package on offer is excellent, paying a very competitive base salary which includes an attractive annual bonus. The package also offers great company benefits such as private health and full family relocation to the South West if required.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Achieving laboratory business targets within the framework of valid legislation, regulations, directive and the annual budget 
  • Safeguard customer and internal stakeholder satisfaction through on-time deliveries and a high level of testing quality  
  • Ensure the environment for Laboratory employees is safe from physical, chemical, and biological hazards and health and safety requirements are followed and adhered to.
  • Coordinate and integrate with other plant function areas to provide support in attaining output, productivity and quality to ensure timely decision-making the safe and stable overall operation of the plant.   
  • Lead the development and implementation of key laboratory productivity improvements to drive operational efficiency.
  • Develop laboratory best practice to assist with improving production capacity, quality and reliability.  
  • Collaborate with the global quality assurance team to facilitate the development of the site quality management system to ensure analytical data and services meet plant process needs and customer expectations.  
  • Establish and set effective quality control strategies for the management of the Laboratory for site.   
  • Ensure the development and quality of testing systems, procedures, and frameworks within the Laboratory to provide quality services in all aspects of test performance to align with site quality assurance requirements designed to meet and maintain ISO90001.
  • Be an inspiring role model and coach for positive behaviors, practices, processes whilst providing leadership, development, direction and support to the laboratory team
  • Build capability of high performing, and multi-disciplined team valuing diversity, technical expertise and clear accountable leadership.
  • Responsible for the clear and responsive support between the Analytical Chemists and QC Chemists to shift laboratory teams to enable and empower the laboratory to achieve successful outcomes for stakeholders.
 
Work Experience and Qualifications Requirements
  • Tertiary degree or higher in Science/Chemistry or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in Laboratory leadership experience with at least 5 years in a key leadership role.
  • Refinery/mineral processing experience is extremely desirable.
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of the sub-functional role of the Laboratory and a solid
  • knowledge of the overall departmental function of the Laboratory within the site.
  • Sound knowledge of analytical techniques through application.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems development.
  • Well-developed leadership skills including advanced strategic thinking, proactive problem
  • solving, interpersonal skills, quality and company objective driven/focused.
