NES Fircroft are working with a highly respected client based in Thornaby. They are looking for a Mechanical Department Manager to join their team.
Our Client has been providing innovative Engineering Design, Consultancy and Project and Construction Management Services for nearly fifty years. Based on Teesside, they deliver projects locally and worldwide, from concept studies through to detailed design, construction execution & client handover.
As part of the company's growth strategy we are looking for an experienced professional to provide Mechanical Engineering expertise to the business across multiple industries whilst undertaking management responsibilities for discipline engineers and designers.

As part of the company's growth strategy we are looking for an experienced professional to provide Mechanical Engineering expertise to the business across multiple industries whilst undertaking management responsibilities for discipline engineers and designers.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
- Management of the discipline team
- Supervising and allocating work to engineers and designers and ensuring compliance to IMS procedures within the discipline team.
- Delivery of discipline deliverables to meet programmes and within sanctioned budget man hour estimates.
- Technical integrity of the design produced by the discipline.
- Working to quality plan and IMS procedures.
- Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations.
- Development of overall concepts and specifications for engineering designs.
- Allocation of man hour budgets for work scopes.
- Interface with Lead Discipline/Senior Discipline Engineer on control and coordination of scope changes linked to discipline scope changes to base man hour estimates and deliverables.
- Interface with Lead Discipline/Senior Discipline Engineer on engineering progress data and reporting, ensuring that weekly updating of the KHI engineering progress sheets is completed in a timely manner.
- Liaising with other engineering disciplines to ensure interdisciplinary compatibility on projects.
- Ensure that inter-discipline liaison linked to project scope of works is performed and recorded.
- Preparing engineering specifications and calculations and other documentation as required.
- Checking and approving specifications, calculations and drawings.
- Liaising with Clients on engineering contracts and design services
- Liaison with the Engineering Director with regard to workload and resource planning.
- Preparation and/or approval of man hour estimates and technical proposals.
- Implementation of approved quality procedures in the section including supporting the Engineering Director with the review and update of the IMS procedures.
- Discipline Representative for sales support & Client presentations including business development.
- Attend meetings internal and external (Client/3rd Party) as required for work scopes.
- Advising and guiding Engineers, Designers and Draughtspersons including apprentices and graduates.
- Assessment and identification of competency training requirement and informing the Engineering Director for implementation.
- Support the Engineering Director in the composition of monthly engineering workload forecasts.
Qualifications:
- Chartered Engineer status
- Degree or equivalent in the related engineering subject or technical ability commensurate with a Graduate Engineer of the same age.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience in Mechanical Design, including the design of plant systems and site layout development.
- Experience of team management.
- Thorough knowledge of Engineering Practices, Codes and Regulations related to the particular discipline.
- Knowledge of current HSE Legislation and Regulations.
- Machinery Experience with a range of rotating and reciprocating machinery.
- Condition Monitoring and Machinery Diagnostics knowledge.
- Knowledge of Reliability, Availability and Maintainability theory.
- Experience of package management & development of technical specifications.
- Experience of Pressure Vessel designs and working with associated codes beneficial but not essential.
- Experience in areas of Materials Handling & Conveying systems would be advantageous.
- Expertise in topics such as Lifting Operations, DSEAR and ATEX would be beneficial but not essential.
Personal Attributes:
- Strong technical background with previous design house experience.
- Good all-round communicator and team player.
- Ability to lead / influence people including those out with own team.
- Ability to network within the industry to seek out specialist advice / guidance when required.
- General business awareness of annual budget cycles and potential impact of actions on finance and / or plant operations.
- Ability to make risk-based decisions on complex subject matter
