Job Title Mechanical Engineer OSP/LSS
Location Blackfriars, London (very occasional travel to other project locations as may be required)
Working Pattern Hybrid
Contract duration 12 months, PART TIME, 3 days a week.
Role Synopsis The Offshore UK Wind Program is the development of 3 Offshore Wind projects. The program play a material part in supporting the UK Government’s target of producing sufficient offshore wind energy to power every UK home by the end of this decade. These projects have a combined potential generating capacity of 5.9 gigawatts, sufficient to power the equivalent of around 6 million households – helping to achieve Scotland’s offshore wind generation target of 11GW and the UK’s 50GW target by 2030.
Responsibilities Your responsibilities:
• Leading the Mechanical sub-package within the Offshore Substation (OSP) and Land Substation (LSS) work package
• Supporting the work package and Engineering work stream and project/JV strategies and project/JV policies
• Supporting the development and preparation of general targets, strategies and tasks within the work package
• Planning and executing of the mechanical work tasks
• Preparing/ validating mechanical concepts designs
• Preparing technical specifications
• Supervising/ guiding inhouse and agency staff (if needed) and third parties like consultancies
• Plan and lead auxiliary and mechanical clarification meetings incl. documentation of the results and actions
• Participation at work package meetings/ jour fixes and if required at work stream and project management meetings/ jour fixes
• Planning, supervising, (participating at) expert and supplier meetings
• Alignment with other work packages, presentation of proposals to the Work Package Manager(s) and Work Stream Lead(s)
• Ensuring the auxiliary and mechanical work tasks are delivered in accordance with the requirements such as budget, timelines, quality, HSE, applicable laws, regulations and consent stipulations and codes and standards
• Escalating problems which cannot be solved on lead engineer/ expert level to the Work Package Manager
• Coordinating Aux related interfaces and stake holders, such as other work packages, work streams
• Providing required in and output of the work package to internal and external Stakeholders
Interfaces / coordinates with
Reporting to the OSP and LSS Work Package Manager and if required to the Engineering Work Stream Lead and Project Management
Required qualification • Mechanical, Process or Electrical Engineer or similar
• Detailed and specific knowledge and experience in design and execution of
o Building technology and system integration
o Material handling studies and mechanical handling concepts
o Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVA/C)
o Piping, Ducting and Instrumentation (PID, DID)
o Motor, pumps, valves
o Water and oil handling incl. cooling and fuel systems, sump, bunker and drain systems
o Lighting systems
o Mechanical systems and its instrumentation and operation (functional block diagrams)
o Operation and maintenance requirements („maintenance free“, simple, access to areas, working space, replaceability etc.)
• General knowledge and experience in
o HSE, HAZOP, HAZID, FMECA, RAM and LOPA Studies
o Safety and fire protection concepts
o Fire detection and suppression systems
o LV and Aux. power supply and distribution (AC and DC incl. UPS)
o (Diesel) Power Generators incl. exhaust systems
o System automation
o Telecommunication and IT
o Corrosion protection of equipment
• Good interface knowledge and understand needs of stakeholders
o Structural (footprints, arrangement, weights, space requirements),
o Low Voltage and Auxiliary power supply and distribution
o Electrical (HV transmission system and equipment, LV systems etc.),
o Automation and Control (SCADA, Telecommunication and IT systems)
o Certification
• Knowledge and commitment to HSE in general and specific to the Work Package responsibility
• Experience in offshore specific system design and integration and interfaces for OSP in at least one previous large infrastructure project
• English oral and written fluent communication skills
• Hands on mentality and strong impulse to solve issues on working level and perform the work autonomously
• General Project Management knowledge (IPMA Level D or comparable recommended) or practical Project Management experience of at least 2 years
• People skills, ability to lead by example and to lead without disciplinary (line) authority
• Ability to professionally interact with external stakeholders as relevant for the Work Package, for example in the supply industry (for technical Work Packages), authorities (for consenting Work Packages), politics and public at large (for stakeholder engagement Work Packages)
• Good business ethics and general knowledge as relevant for Work Package, for example negotiations, law, contracts, consenting as well as the electricity generation and offshore industries
