Principal Process Safety & Risk

The client
Major T1 mining house with various operations across WA. The opportunity now presents itself for a Process Safety professional to join the team on a 12-month contract as Principal Process Safety & Risk, working on site on an 8:6 FIFO roster. This is an operations-based position. 
 
 
The job

• Performing process safety and risk assessments on the ore processing facility  
• Preliminary and detailed safety in design for process, infrastructure, equipment taking into account construction methodology, operations and maintenance philosophies.  
• Identifying engineering controls and improvements following incidents, hazard reports and risk assessments  
• Planning and involvement in process safety risk assessment studies - including HAZID, HAZOP and SIL Allocation, preparing reports and supporting the tracking of actions through to closure.  
• Facilitate process safety risk assessment studies and monitor actions to completion Supporting decision making to demonstrate ALARP  
• Compiling safety in design reports summarising the overall ALARP demonstration  
• Contribute to the development of standards, procedures / processes, guidelines and training materials for the effective implementation of the Process Safety Management System  
• Consult with key stakeholders and provide input to the development, implementation and maintenance of the Process Safety Management System  
• Ensure process safety standards are applied consistently to all phases of projects  
• Coach and develop Fortescue personnel and contractors in the implementation of the Process Safety Management System  
• Monitor H&S statutory and system compliance requirements 

What you'll need

• Tertiary qualifications in WHS, risk, process engineering, process safety management or related field Experience in ore processing or related industry  
• Knowledge of Australian and applicable international codes and standards as well as the applicable statutory requirements  
• Safety in design engineering experience  
• Experience with definition and application of control measures and performance standards Experience in delivery and facilitation of process safety studies  
• Excellent engagement skills across all business levels and with both staff and contractors Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) - highly considered  
• Listing on the National Engineering Register (NER) - highly considered Registered Process Safety Professional (IChemE) - highly considered
