Our client, an international operating company, is current seeking a Production Shift Superintendent to work residentially in Milan, Italy, support pre-operations preparation for a major LNG project.

The Production Shift Superintendent will lead and manage the shift production teams to safely carry out all the production activities within the LNG Plant, ensuring compliance with the applicable Company management system, regulations and standards, facilitating proper maintenance of plant and equipment and developing and assessing the production team personnel, in order to ensure continuous, safe and efficient operations to meet or exceed LNG production targets.

Key Responsibilities:

During Engineering phase:

  • Review engineering documents and make sure they are coherent and in line with Company expectations.

  • Develop and write production procedures.

  • Participate in the definition of start-up sequence, taking into account the reduction of flare emissions.

  • Participate in all Hazop and engineering reviews, DCS FATs, reduction of alarms…

  • Develop and implement production processes (PTW, inhibitions, downgraded situations, safety tours, logs, Simops…).

  • Develop the list of production tools.

  • Implement digital solutions (digital twin, PI…).

  • Recruit and train production staff, especially local personnel.


During Operation phase:

  • Ensure safety of personnel, environment protection, and the technical integrity of equipment’s in his domain of activities, implement HSE rules and follow procedures.

  • Ensure good housekeeping of CCR, offices, kitchen, storages and site, maintain a clean and safe working environment, ensure equipment’s are appropriately stored.

  • Occasionally participate in the near misses analyses, HAZOPs, technical reviews, risk assessment, safety audits, RCA, incidents and accidents analyses.

  • Formally record all downgraded situations.

  • Perform the role defined by the Company Work Permit System, and SIMOPS management plans.

  • Perform the role defined by the Company Emergency Response Plan.

  • Direct and supervise the activities of the plant production personnel to ensure that the plant is operated safely within agreed parameters and that operating procedures are in accordance with applicable company regulations and standards, and are strictly adhered to.

  • Ensure that all activities in the plant are coordinated and covered by a well prepared and implemented PTW and that all work practices are according to approved standards, in order to ensure consistent and safe plant activities.

  • Identify work methods and precautions required for all works carried out during the shift and direct proper maintenance of plant equipment to ensure that safe working conditions exist and are maintained in the plant.

  • Carry out regular safety and plant integrity audits on the plant (PTW system, Firefighting equipment, equipment general conditions, etc.)

  • For critical jobs (only), participate to permit preparation meetings, ensure participation of concerned parties, and control opening of PTWs.

  • Troubleshoot plant problems and provide guidance to Production teams with respect to appropriate corrective actions to maintain the continuity of plant operations.

  • Prioritize all works within the plant in consultation with Maintenance and Inspection personnel to ensure safety, integrity and production targets are met.

  • Ensure proper shutdown planning and coordination and effective handling of emergency situations, providing the required support, so that all such activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Represent the LNG Plant Management during night shift work (ie, outside normal day working hours) in dealing directly with shipping personnel, plant security and shift discipline support teams, to ensure proper coordination between the parties. Assume full responsibility for the entire plant operations outside day normal working hours and is the sole Management representative on site responsible for operation, emergency actions, shift discipline, etc., until LNG Plant Management is back at work.

  • Work within established technical procedures and standards in normal conditions, but required to use own initiative and decision making when dealing with changing process conditions and emergency situations.

  • Log and communicate shift activities via shift logs and ensure the accuracy of the supervisors logs and prepare separate written reports on plant trips, abnormal operations and accidents/dangerous occurrences in order to report all plant activities and to facilitate provision of important information to the concerned parties.

  • Manage development of employees and especially Nationals to obtain maximum performance for the company.

  • Participate at the identification of training needs and ensure the proper implementation of approved training development programs within his department

  • Discuss with and set up objectives on an annual basis for subordinates and review on a regular basis.

  • Perform end of year appraisals.


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor of higher education in Applied Science or Chemical Engineering or equivalent with international standard and solid experience
  • Minimum 20 years specific production experience in oil, gas or petrochemical industry

  • Minimum 10 years in Senior Production Positions

  • Minimum 10 years in LNG production plants, not LNG terminals

  • Excellent knowledge of oil & gas / LNG production processes and methods.

  • Excellent knowledge of natural gas treatment, LNG production activities, Storage & Loading and Utilities operations.

  • Excellent ability to troubleshoot process problems and upsets.

  • Excellent knowledge of HSE and Environment Management systems.

  • Excellent knowledge of PTW system in Oil & Gas Industry.

  • High knowledge of Emergency Response systems and experience in handling plant emergencies.

  • Good knowledge of computer windows office applications.

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
