About the business and the role:
Monkeytoe Group is an Australasian company headquartered in New Zealand. They have two manufacturing facilities; one in Hawera NZ, and the other in Victoria Australia.  Monkeytoe focus on the designing, supplying and installation of aluminum structures. which are generally assembled using standard components but custom configurations. The structures they work with include roof top HVAC platforms, permanent stair towers, Mezz floors and custom access solutions and their products are installed across New Zealand and Australia.

Their clients include Architects and Builders nationally and large clients across New Zealand including NZ Refinery in Whangarei and the Aluminum Smelter in Bluff.  They are innovative and have a real passion for what they do.

Due to an internal transfer we are seeking an QHSE Manager in a permanent role based in Taranaki, Auckland or one of their other offices in New Zealand.

You will report to the General Manager and you will be responsible for all aspects of health and safety over a number of their sites across New Zealand. Responsible to ensure Monkeytoe is Compliant with NZ Legislation, business related compliance requirements including ISO accreditation, insurances, and processes.

This includes securing and maintaining ISO 45001 (Health and Safety), ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) standards. This is achieved by working with the team to ensure systems, processes and documentation are implemented, maintained and improvements are being executed and documented.

You will ensure real actions are happening on the front line to ensure their staff are safe, their products are of consistent quality and customer satisfaction are achieved and overall ensuring the environment around all Monkeytoe facilities are safe.

There is a strong requirement for a quality/compliance focus and you will have overall responsibility for ensuring system readiness for audits.  You will need to have worked at this level before to enable you to hit the ground running in your role.

You will be heavily involved with the participation and co-ordination of monthly HSEQ communication meetings to ensure there remains a strong focus and positive culture throughout the team on HSEQ within the NZ operations. 

Other key responsibilities in this role will include:
  • Quality and Environmental system management, incident investigation, client documentation and improvement management, training, including legal compliance
  • Working collaboratively with site managers to ensure QHSE is consistent across their operations
  • Ensuring the prevention of work-related injury or illness through the provision of effective behavioral based safety process and hazard identification systems.
  • Leading the safety culture change with interpretation analysis, motivation and the education of staff members.
  • Investigation of breaches of safety policies and procedures
  • Lead the effective QHSE integration relationships with key internal and external parties to ensure business needs and objectives are achieved
  • Assist in the preparation of project audit schedules and audit reports (internal and external), noting non-conformances and verifying effective corrective action.
  • Assist during audits and in the determination of audit findings and corrective actions.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and company standards.

You will ideally hold a relevant HSEQ or Quality qualification, and you will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with proven experience in leading others to manage change process.
