Senior Mechanical Designer – Brisbane Based Role – 12 month contract with view to transition to permanent

NES Fircroft have partnered with a leading global engineering consultancy focused on designing and delivering transformative projects across the globe. We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to commence on a long-term contract opportunity, working on ground-breaking projects that will shape the future of mining.

As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you will be collaborating with seasoned team of design and engineering experts to provide technical design support on a range of the largest mining projects within Australia. The successful candidate will work closely with designers and engineers to provide technical design support on a range of mining projects in the early stages of development, with a focus on gold and/or copper operations/projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop mechanical designs and provide technical support for early-stage mining projects, including feasibility studies, pre-feasibility studies, and preliminary design.
  • Prepare mechanical drawings, schematics, and layouts using AutoCAD and other software tools as required.
  • Work with other disciplines to ensure overall design coherence, including civil, electrical, and process engineers.
  • Assist with preparing mechanical design and equipment specifications for tender documents.
  • Provide technical input to proposals and client presentations.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on the mining industry and gold and/or copper operations/projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD essential.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation would be advantageous.
  • Experience with early-stage concept and design work, including feasibility studies, pre-feasibility studies, and preliminary design.
  • Ability to undertake, manage, and produce appropriate 2D and/or 3D CAD models, documentation, and other deliverables, while demonstrating the ability to work independently to organize and prioritize demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to liaise with the engineers and drafters to ensure timely delivery of design drawings, whilst maintain, develop, and retain the highest standard of technical design skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
