Welding and Materials Lead

The welding and materials lead reports to the technical manager and is accountable for the assurance and integrity of the permanent materials provided by the EPCI Contractor and managing the completion of the pipeline WPQ, AUT validation and ECA program. They will provide guidance to site inspection personnel and travel to worksite(s) for key stages of the fabrication / installation as required.

  • Oversee the all weld procedure qualifications, NDE validations / qualifications and FJC qualification scopes for SURF components
  • Provide technical expertise in the review and development of welding and materials testing programs
  • Oversee the Contractors engineering work proposals and plans particularly with respect to pipeline reeling (candidate has a significant background in pipeline reeling/SCR welding)
  • Physically oversee and monitor the execution of qualification of welding and material test programs as well as being present during the stalk welding in the Contractor spool base and offshore during the installation works.
  • Review and approve material clarifications / queries / deviations against project requirements.
  • Ensure a robust ECA methodology and testing program is completed and AUT acceptance criteria used onshore and offshore is in line with the requirements.
  • Liaise with and seek support from HQ specialists when require
  • Support Technical Manager on all material and welding requirements.
  • Ensuring technical integrity of all materials, WPQ and AUT.
  • Ensuring documents reviewed per Contractor MDR matrix,
  • Engaging HQ resources as required for verification of deviations
Qualifications / Experience
  • Master of Science degree in Material/Welding Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering
  • 20+ years’ experience working for consulting engineers or oil and gas exploration / production companies with a proven track record in similar positions
  • Specialization: Material, Welding and NDE
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in offshore pipeline construction
  • Experience in QC audits of construction vessels and construction yards related to Material, Welding and NDE
  • Firsthand knowledge of Deep Water Developments
  • Fully familiar with Pipeline Codes i.e. API 1104 and DnVGL-ST-F101
