Role Summary
The Commissioning & Startup (CSU) Coordinator provides technical leadership and coordination to support the safe and efficient commissioning and startup of the Power Block Unit. Reporting to the CSU Manager, this role is responsible for preparing systems, procedures, and field execution activities during both the Construction and CSU phases. The position requires strong collaboration with Construction, Engineering, Operations, Vendors, and specialty contractors to ensure readiness, compliance, and safe execution.

Role Summary
The Commissioning & Startup (CSU) Coordinator provides technical leadership and coordination to support the safe and efficient commissioning and startup of the Power Block Unit. Reporting to the CSU Manager, this role is responsible for preparing systems, procedures, and field execution activities during both the Construction and CSU phases. The position requires strong collaboration with Construction, Engineering, Operations, Vendors, and specialty contractors to ensure readiness, compliance, and safe execution.
Construction Phase:
Build Knowledge of Client, Project, and Power Block Unit
- Review CSU Execution Plan, project schedule, and systemization to gain full project understanding.
- Develop expertise in the assigned Process Unit to effectively lead and coordinate CSU activities.
- Establish working relationships with CSU, Construction, Engineering, and Operations teams.
- Understand client terminology, procedures, and standards.
Prepare for System Turnover
- Understand system scopes and turnover sequencing.
- Review system cleaning plans, steam blow planning, and contractor cleaning procedures.
- Support finalization of temporary spools and consumables required for CSU.
- Become proficient in SmartCompletions, the Completions Management System (CMS).
- Participate in Construction Complete walkdowns for Power Block systems.
- Understand punch list processes and CSU System Handover Management workflows.
- Review, comment, and finalize Power Block commissioning packages and procedures in alignment with vendor requirements.
Commissioning & Startup Phase:
Safety
- Follow EH&S standards and promote safe execution of all CSU activities.
- Lead by example through field audits, coaching, and intervention when required.
- Adhere to SIMOPS Plan requirements and communicate planned activities directly to Construction teams.
- Support Operations Readiness Inspection (ORI/PSSR) to confirm readiness for startup.
Daily Work Execution
- Attend and support CC/MC/STCC walkdowns to ensure high-quality system readiness.
- Participate in daily CSU execution meetings and contribute to the 3‑week lookahead.
- Coordinate daily activities between Field Operations and Craft Discipline Leads.
- Lead resolution of field issues, escalating when necessary.
- Act as CSU liaison with vendors and specialty contractors, removing barriers and monitoring progress.
- Support development and issuance of nightshift Daily Order Instructions (DOIs) for the Power Block Unit.
Power Block–Specific Responsibilities
- Auxiliary Systems: Support pre‑commissioning activities including lube oil flushing and fuel gas system testing.
- Control Systems Validation: Support testing of machine protection systems, including Bently Nevada hardware/software for Baker Hughes GTGs and MHI control logic.
- Grid Synchronization: Assist with initial synchronization of GTG and STG units, including load rejection and performance testing.
- HRSGs: Collaborate with Cleaver‑Brooks advisors and cleaning contractors for chemical cleaning (boil‑out).
- Instrumentation: Support vendor-led calibration of critical instrumentation (e.g., vibration probes, flame scanners) to ensure readiness for First Fire.
- Woodward Governor Calibration: Support fine‑tuning of Woodward control systems for accurate speed and load control.
Role Scope
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, codes, standards, and client procedures.
- Provide technical leadership to meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
- Contribute to risk management, root cause analysis, and lessons learned.
- Enhance system reliability and efficiency through technology evaluation and lifecycle planning.
- Influence stakeholders and drive technical decisions with minimal oversight.
Qualifications
- Relevant technical degree with 7+ years of commissioning/startup or operations experience, or 10+ years of related field experience.
- Strong understanding of power generation systems, control systems, and commissioning processes.
- Experience with Completions Management Systems (e.g., SmartCompletions).
- Proven ability to collaborate, influence without authority, and communicate technical concepts effectively.
- Strong facilitation, coordination, and problem‑solving skills.
Working Conditions
- Office‑based with regular field presence at construction and commissioning sites.
- Approximately 10–20% travel may be required.
- Occasional work outside regular business hours during critical CSU activities.
