Woodside Energy is seeking a Health and Safety Adviser for a 12-month contract with potential to extend.

The purpose of this position is to provide HS support to line leadership and to provide coaching to Woodside and contractor personnel in safety leadership, behaviours and performance.

The position acts in a coordinated context to ensure an integrated ‘one team’ approach amongst contractors and facility HS resources to support asset (operate and execute) and project interfacing in an aligned manner.

The role is required to establish asset HS expectations to projects to ensure minimum requirements are met and an open and collaborative culture is established.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Coach and support in-field leadership, including FP coaching, guidance and governance, and contract assurance.
  • Lead contract assurance programs with the company representative when acting as contract focal and support asset assurance under the direction of the HSE contract focal.
  • Support Level 1 and Level 2 asset assurance programs, including HS Standards (GSR), HS critical controls (MERP, ERP, etc.) and HS legislative compliance requirements.
  • Participate in front-end planning for high-risk or complex scopes, including construction reviews, HAZIDs and risk assessments for maintenance, turnarounds and offshore project scopes.
  • Verify project activities are executed in accordance with asset HSE requirements and expectations, including support and input into HS deliverables for turnarounds.
  • Support human factors (HOP) leadership training and implementation across the asset.
  • Support the HSE representatives’ network and provide visibility of key workforce issues to the asset leadership team.
  • Provide input into the development, review and implementation of site procedures and guidelines, and communicate events, learnings and changes to key HSE documentation.
  • Support and guide event investigations, including root cause analysis, human factors considerations and work-related injury management.
  • Maintain an understanding of key process safety risks on site and provide guidance on risk management, supported by appropriate process safety knowledge. - Respond daily to general H&S enquiries onsite, including technical system support (e.g. First Priority and ChemAlert), and provide H&S performance insights, trends and asset governance.

Skills & Experience:
  • Strong safety leadership and coaching capability, with proven experience supporting frontline and line leadership
  • Ability to influence without authority and build trusted relationships with Woodside and contractor personnel
  • Proven experience in contractor HS assurance, including contract mobilisation, execution and close-out
  • Capability to lead and support HS assurance programs aligned to company HS Standards and critical controls
  • Strong understanding of process safety risks and the management of major accident events
  • Demonstrated experience in front-end planning for high-risk / complex scopes (construction reviews, HAZIDs, risk assessments, turnarounds, offshore projects)
  • Ability to operate effectively in an integrated “one team” contractor / asset environment
  • Strong analytical skills to identify HS trends, performance insights and emerging risks
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, across all organisational levels
  • Demonstrated proficiency in FP / safety leadership coaching, governance and behavioural safety
  • Practical experience in HS legislative compliance assurance and regulatory engagement support
  • Capability in incident investigation, including human factors analysis and injury management support
  • Operational knowledge of HS systems and tools (e.g. First Priority, ChemAlert, or equivalent)
