Pump Mechanic
Location: Houston, TX (with potential travel to customer sites)
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary Seeking an experienced Pump Mechanic to support the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps in industrial and petrochemical environments. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, experience with rotating equipment, and the ability to work both in-shop and in-field settings while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair centrifugal, vertical turbine, and positive displacement pumps
  
  
• Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision tools
  
  
• Replace bearings, seals (including mechanical seals), gaskets, sleeves, shafts, and impellers
  
  
• Perform pump alignment (laser and dial indicator methods)
  
  
• Conduct vibration analysis and basic troubleshooting of rotating equipment
  
  
• Assist with pump installation, start-up, and commissioning
  
  
• Read and interpret blueprints, OEM manuals, schematics, and technical drawings
  
  
• Document repair processes and maintain service records
  
  
• Work safely in refinery, petrochemical, pipeline, and industrial facilities
  
  
• Follow company safety procedures and OSHA standards
  
  

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a pump mechanic or rotating equipment technician
  
  
• Experience with API pumps preferred (API 610, API 682 familiarity a plus)
  
  
• Knowledge of shaft alignment and balancing principles
  
  
• Ability to work in shop and field environments
  
  
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  
  
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as required
  
  

Preferred Experience

• Experience working in oil & gas, petrochemical, or power generation facilities
  
  
• Millwright background
  
  
• Familiarity with seal systems and cartridge seal installation
  
  
• Rigging and forklift certification (preferred but not required)
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs
  
  
• Ability to work in confined spaces and industrial environments
  
  
• Standing, bending, and working with tools for extended periods
