Role - Quality Manager 
Location - West Midlands
  • The Quality Manager is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving all aspects of quality assurance and control across the site’s activities.
  • They will lead the quality team, ensure compliance with internal standards, external regulations and customer requirements, manage all key quality documentation (ITPs, Procedures, Calibration Records, Lifetime Records, etc.), and drive performance to “right first time, every time” standards.
  • This role is critical in high integrity, regulated environments where thorough traceability, safety, and regulatory compliance are mandatory.

  • Reporting to the Head of Quality, you will lead the quality function across both project and operational domains, with a focus on dimensional control, NDT, and quality engineering.
  • This role will play a key part in the setup of a new manufacturing facility, including the development and implementation of a fit-for-purpose Quality Management System (QMS).
Direct Reports: Quality Engineers, Inspectors, NDT Technicians, Quality Technicians
Liaison With: Operations, Engineering, EHS, Projects, Supply Chain, Clients, and Regulatory Bodies

Project Quality
  • Ensure project quality requirements are clearly defined, communicated, and embedded across engineering and manufacturing. 
  • Develop and maintain Project Quality Plans (PQPs), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and Welding Quality Documentation.  Post-implementation, focus will shift to the efficient maintenance and continual improvement of these systems and documents.
  • Interpret and apply quality grading and classification requirements for materials, components, and processes in accordance with project or customer specifications. 
  • Manage the compilation, review, and approval of Lifetime Records / Lifetime Quality Documentation, ensuring compliance with nuclear industry standards. 
  • Support and lead Quality Surveillance activities across the supply chain and internal functions.
 
Operational Quality:
  • Lead and manage operational QA/QC functions, including dimensional inspection, NDT oversight, and weld quality assurance. 
  • Implement and monitor quality KPIs, promoting a right-first-time culture. 
  • Conduct and lead root cause investigations and ensure effective corrective/preventive actions (CAPA). 
  • Provide hands-on quality support to production and engineering teams to ensure product conformance and process validation.
Essential requirements
  • Ideally Bachelor’s degree in Quality Assurance or related subject
  • Proven Engineering, Business Management, Manufacturing or related field
  • Nuclear Industry experience required
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, EN 3834, EN1090
  • Lead/Internal Auditor in ISO 9001  
  • NCR generation and management
  • Experience of working to Quality Control Grading
  • Experience of working in highly regulated industry
  • Experience and understanding of process improvement
  • Strong Practical Problem Solving skills being able to lead and facilitate activities leading to improvements.
  • 6-sigma trained or trained in other problem solving (8D, 6-Sigma, 5S, 7W, etc)
  • Proven experience as a Quality Manager or Senior Quality Engineer in a regulated, high-integrity manufacturing environment (nuclear, aerospace, defence, or similar). 
  • In-depth knowledge of welding quality (e.g. CSWIP, PCN), NDT processes, and dimensional control methods. 
  • Hands-on experience in the setup of a new manufacturing facility and implementation of supporting quality systems.
