Senior Tax Advisor Location: Houston, TX

Reports to: Tax Manager
About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Advisor to support full cycle federal and state tax compliance for our U.S. operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate tax calculation, reporting, and strategic tax planning in a dynamic energy environment. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in corporate taxation, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to partner effectively with internal teams and external tax authorities

Key Responsibilities Tax Compliance and Reporting
  • Lead federal income tax reporting for multiple U.S. consolidated groups, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Prepare and review state income and franchise tax returns across numerous jurisdictions
  • Oversee ongoing tax calculations, quarterly reporting, annual filings, and supporting documentation
Tax Research and Policy
  • Conduct detailed tax research to support accurate filings, technical positions, and internal advisories
  • Monitor federal and state tax law changes and update internal tax policies, procedures, and systems accordingly

Advisory and Internal Support
  • Provide tax consultation to internal business units across U.S. operations, helping guide decision making and ensure compliance
  • Support and mentor other tax staff through training, coaching, and technical guidance

Stakeholder and Audit Management
  • Act as a main point of contact with federal and state authorities, as well as independent auditors
  • Ensure timely responses to tax notices, audit requests, and regulatory inquiries

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in corporate federal and state taxation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required plus either an advanced degree in Accounting or Taxation, or CPA certification
  • Strong working knowledge of taxation within the oil and gas industry
  • Experience with state and local income taxes, franchise taxes, sales and use taxes, and excise taxation
  • Strong analytical skills including consulting, fact finding, logical problem solving, and risk evaluation
Preferred Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Strong tax research capabilities and comfort interpreting complex tax regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and online tax compliance platforms
