Position Summary The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design and finalization of medium-voltage and low-voltage power distribution systems for gas plants, power generation facilities, and packaged/ skid-mounted equipment. This role leads single line design, equipment specification, and sizing of transformers, cables, and MCCs to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Power Distribution & Single Line Design

    • Develop and finalize single line diagrams for new and existing facilities (gas plants, power gen units, and packaged systems).

    • Lay out and coordinate electrical distribution systems from utility/ generator through 15 kV switchgear, transformers, MCCs, panels, and end loads.

    • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.

    • Medium Voltage Equipment (15 kV)

      • Lead design and application of 15 kV switchgear including protection schemes, metering, and control.

      • Select and specify MV breakers, relays, and associated protection equipment.

      • Review vendor drawings and ensure integration into project single line and control schemes.

      • Transformer & Cable Sizing

        • Perform transformer sizing based on load studies, fault levels, and future expansion requirements.

        • Size power and control cables, develop cable schedules, and coordinate routing with other disciplines.

        • Validate short-circuit, voltage drop, and load flow calculations as required.

        • MCCs and Low-Voltage Systems

          • Specify and design Motor Control Centers (MCCs) for plant and packaged equipment.

          • Coordinate motor starting methods, overload protection, and interface with control systems.

          • Develop panel schedules and low-voltage distribution for auxiliary systems.

          • Specification & Technical Documents

            • Prepare equipment specifications, data sheets, and requisitions for switchgear, transformers, MCCs, distribution panels, and auxiliary equipment.

            • Review and approve vendor documents, shop drawings, and test reports.

            • Develop standard templates for single line diagrams, schematics, and equipment specs.

            • Gas Plant & Packaged Systems

              • Design electrical distribution for gas plants, including compressors, process skids, utilities, and support systems.

              • Adapt designs for smaller packaged plants/ skids, ensuring scalability, modularity, and ease of installation.

              • Coordinate with mechanical, process, and packaging teams to integrate electrical scope into overall plant layout.

              • Project Execution & Coordination

                • Lead electrical design tasks from concept through IFC (Issued for Construction) and as-built.

                • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.

                • Support construction, commissioning, and start-up with RFIs, field visits, and punch list resolution.

                  Minimum Qualifications
                  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

                  • 8+ years of experience in electrical design for power generation, gas plants, or heavy industrial facilities.

                  • Proven experience with:

                    • Single line diagram development and finalization

                    • 15 kV switchgear design and application

                    • Transformer and cable sizing

                    • MCC design and specification

                  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, IEC, NFPA).

                  • Proficiency in CAD tools used for electrical design (AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar).

                    Preferred Qualifications
                    • Experience with gas processing plants and/or packaged equipment / skid-mounted plants.

                    • Familiarity with short-circuit, load flow, and protection coordination studies (ETAP, SKM, or similar).

                    • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain it is a plus.

                    • Experience leading multi-discipline design reviews and interacting directly with clients.

                    Key Competencies
                    • Strong technical judgment and ability to finalize designs independently.

                    • Detail-oriented with a focus on safety, reliability, and constructability.
