Training Strategist | 12‑Month Contract
The Opportunity
The Human Resources team is seeking a contract Training Strategist to support the organization’s Training Centre of Expertise. This role will contribute to the development and implementation of scalable, sustainable training solutions that meet business needs across multiple functions.
The ideal candidate brings strong diagnostic capabilities, deep experience in training needs assessments, and a solid understanding of adult learning principles, methodologies, evaluation models, and learning technologies. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, business partnership abilities, and a strategic mindset.
What You’ll Do
• Collaborate with business areas, training developers (including external vendors), LMS teams, governance analysts, and fellow training strategists to ensure a consistent and effective training experience
• Build strong partnerships with business units to understand goals and translate them into clear training requirements
• Validate, streamline, and prioritize training needs in alignment with broader organizational initiatives
• Recommend effective training solutions by applying training standards, identifying non‑training needs, and making informed buy/build decisions
• Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness, adjusting solutions as needed
• Support business units in developing and maintaining training profiles aligned with defined needs
• Manage multiple internal and external training development projects, ensuring delivery on time, on scope, and on budget
• Facilitate ongoing meetings with developers and LMS teams to track project progress and resolve issues
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ years of experience in a corporate learning role (designer, consultant, partner, or strategist)
• Proven experience conducting training needs assessments and applying adult learning principles
• 3+ years of experience in the energy, utilities, or similar technical industry
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence across teams
• Proven problem‑solving skills and experience implementing learning solutions
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Adaptability and flexibility in response to shifting priorities
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with learning systems and enablement technologies (e.g., SuccessFactors, Workday Learning)
• Knowledge of training evaluation models
• Experience using customer insights and secondary research to inform learning strategies
• Ability to apply critical thinking and systems thinking to propose effective solutions
