Job Title: Utilities Operator 
Location: Edmonton, Calgary, Medicine Hat, Peace River
Length: 1 Year Term
Rotation: Rotating day/night shift position on an 8 and 6 rotation
Description:

  • Monitor and inspect plant equipment, including switches, valves, gauges, alarms, meters and other instruments to measure temperature, pressure and fuel flow, to detect leaks or other equipment malfunctions and to ensure wells are operating at maximum efficiency. This includes monitoring of valves, chokes, and ESD’s. safety detection equipment.
  • Work in conjunction with the Plant Lead Operator to maximize production and minimize downtime of boilers, evaporators and other associated equipment.
  • Lead turn around and maintenance activities in the field area. Ensure that work is done safely and in an environmentally friendly manner.
  • Ensure that equipment malfunctions and failure are identified to the Maintenance Department, through the Work Order system, and proper prioritization is applied to the repairs of the issues identified.
  • Ensure that equipment is operated within design parameters, not exceeding the designed temperature, pressure, or flow.
  • Ensure that issues regarding the integrity of pressure piping are communicated directly to Chief Steam Engineer in a timely manner.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance, when required, using appropriate Lock Out Tag Out procedures and standard flushing and DE pressuring practices to ensure work can be completed safely.
  • Analyze and record instrument readings and equipment malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoot and perform corrective action and minor repairs to prevent equipment or system failure.
  • Clean and lubricate pumps and compressors and perform other routine equipment maintenance duties using appropriate lubricants and hand, power and precision tools.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment, both in the Field facility and in the vicinity of the facility.
  • Maintain a daily log of operation, maintenance and safety activities, and write reports about plant operation.
  • Work in the ongoing use, review, and update of plant SOP’s and CTPs.
  • Understand and ensure the safe operation and integrity of all plant pressure equipment and piping, Assist Chief Power Engineer in audits, inspections and document control related activities with regards to the PE-IMS.
