Role Synopsis
 
  • This role covers Workover Rig operations as operational requirements dictate.
  • The WSL reportsto Workover Team Leader, who in turn reports to the Workover Superintendent
  • The WSL is responsible for the implementation of the workover programme.
  • The role of the WSL is to ensure that HSE goals, Operational Integrity, Standards and Well Objectives are not compromised during well operations.
  • In some instances the WSL will be the Lead on the WO rigs, in other instances they will work in support of the Senior WSL.
  • Mentoring of staff is a key role.
 
Key Accountabilities   
 
  • Active HSE Leadership
  • Active monitoring and directing of operations including but not limited to HSE; well control; planning and preparation of upcoming operations; issuing of clear instructions to the rig contractor based on the requirements laid down in the Standards, the workover programme, discussions with the office and indications from the well; communication with various contractors on and off site; observing, interpreting, understanding and reacting to changes in downhole trends; adequate reporting; good oilfield practices etc.
  • The WSL will provide mentoring and support to the development of Iraqi staff.
  • Monitor service providers through formal audit and inspections to promote good HSE & oil field practice
Criteria and Qualifications
  • Guideline of >5 years wellsite experience. Valid IWCF or IADC well control certificate (surface stack supervisor)
  • Demonstrate track record of delivery as a WSL support covering all experience and expectations above.
  • Demonstrate values and behaviours by personal example that reinforces personnel and process safety, continuous risk reduction, and performance improvement. Must have good English verbal, written, and listening skills          
  • Capability to lead TBTs, pre-shift briefs, leading initial investigations for HSE & operational incidents, can play an active leadership role in the teamwork, after action reviews for critical activities.
  • Can independently supervise critical activities.
  • In-depth knowledge of technical workover operations, including rigging, completions, and well interventions
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving operational challenges specific to workover activities, including equipment failure and well integrity issues
  • Proficient understanding the technical specifications of workover rigs.
  • High knowledge of Workover operations and safe working practices, and able to write work instructions to the contractor.
  • High level of organization, capable of handling multiple tasks and priorities, such as tracking supplies, coordinating personnel, and managing schedules. Effective time-management skills to respond quickly.
  • Ability to coordinate logistics and relay important updates to ensure that operational requirements are met promptly.
  • Must be able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work on own initiative; use a proactive approach to problem-solving and self-development
  • Ability to understand and work with differing cultures.
  • Ability to make critical decisions in high-pressure environments and lead safety-focused initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of project timelines, cost management, and resource allocation
  • Adaptability to respond to the dynamic needs of field operations and work extended hours when necessary to support the team or step up covering any role.
  • Familiarity with HSE practices and safety regulations in the oil and gas industry maintaining a safe work environment.
  • High knowledge of risk management principles to help identify and mitigate potential hazards.
