HV Commissioning Manager
Location: UK Wide

We're supporting a growing power infrastructure contractor that's looking to bring in an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning activities across a range of HV projects throughout the UK.

The business delivers major power infrastructure schemes for data centres, renewable energy developments, industrial clients and network operators, with projects ranging from 11kV through to 400kV.

This is a senior role for someone who knows commissioning inside out, can lead a team, and is comfortable taking ownership of projects through testing, energisation and final handover.

What you'll be doing You'll be responsible for managing commissioning activities across several projects at any one time, working closely with project managers, engineers, construction teams, clients and subcontractors.

The role combines technical leadership with people management and project delivery responsibility.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Managing commissioning programmes from planning through to energisation and handover.
  • Leading and developing a team of Commissioning Engineers.
  • Acting as the technical lead for all commissioning-related matters.
  • Reviewing and approving commissioning plans, procedures and documentation.
  • Supporting FAT and SAT activities.
  • Working closely with design, delivery and construction teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Managing client relationships and attending technical and progress meetings.
  • Resolving technical issues during commissioning and testing.
  • Ensuring all activities are carried out safely and in line with industry standards and company procedures.
  • Providing technical support for bids and tender submissions when required.
What we're looking for We're keen to speak with people who have a strong background in HV commissioning and have either managed commissioning teams already or are ready to step into a broader leadership role.

Ideally you'll have:

  • Experience commissioning HV substations and electrical infrastructure projects in the UK.
  • A background working for a DNO, ICP, OEM, EPC contractor or transmission business.
  • Previous experience as a Senior Authorised Person and/or Commissioning Engineer.
  • Good working knowledge of substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems and HV cable networks.
  • A solid understanding of UK safety rules and industry standards.
  • Experience managing engineers, subcontractors and specialist testing teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • HNC, HND or Degree level qualification in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Nice to have
  • Experience working on transmission projects up to 400kV.
  • National Grid, DNO or major utility project experience.
  • Knowledge of G81, NERS and network operator requirements.
  • Previous responsibility for developing commissioning procedures, standards or governance frameworks.
Why consider it? This is a chance to join a business that's growing quickly in the power sector and already delivering some sizeable projects across the UK.

The role offers a good mix of technical involvement, leadership responsibility and client-facing work, making it a strong opportunity for someone looking to move away from being purely hands-on and into a more strategic commissioning position.

It would suit an experienced Commissioning Manager, Lead Commissioning Engineer, Senior Authorised Person or Operations Engineer looking for the next step in their career.
