Description Job Title: Indirect Tax Analyst

Work Location: Raleigh, NC

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Tax Analyst Contractor to support our Indirect Tax team. This role will primarily focus on sales and use tax compliance activities, including return preparation and filing, amended return processing, exemption certificate management, and audit support. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with indirect tax compliance in a multi-state environment and possess strong analytical and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare and file indirect tax returns, including sales and use tax returns, in accordance with applicable state and local tax regulations.
· Assist with the preparation and submission of amended returns and refund claims.
· Review, validate, and maintain customer exemption certificates to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
· Research taxability issues and assist in resolving compliance-related questions.
· Support state and local tax audits by gathering documentation, preparing audit schedules, and responding to auditor requests.
· Reconcile tax accounts and identify discrepancies requiring investigation or correction.
· Maintain organized tax records and supporting documentation.
· Assist with tax projects, process improvements, and special compliance initiatives as needed.
· Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Finance, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Sales Operations, and Legal teams.
Qualifications
Required
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related field.
· 3+ years of experience in indirect tax compliance (sales and use tax).
· Experience preparing and filing sales and use tax returns.
· Experience reviewing and managing exemption certificates.
· Experience supporting state and local tax audits.
· Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
· Experience with SAP, Vertex software.
· Experience with amended return preparation and refund recovery projects.
· Exposure to manufacturing, engineering, energy, or industrial industries.
· Familiarity with multi-state sales and use tax regulations.
