About the Opportunity NES Fircroft is seeking experienced and motivated Instrument Technicians to support upcoming works associated with the Papua LNG Project in Papua New Guinea.

This opportunity is exclusively available to PNG Nationals and is aimed at skilled technicians with previous experience in LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, mining, processing, major construction or similar heavy industrial environments.

Successful candidates will work as part of a multidisciplinary construction and commissioning team and will be responsible for the installation, inspection, calibration, testing and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, procedures and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities As an Instrument Technician, your responsibilities will include:

• Read and interpret instrumentation drawings, P&IDs, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, wiring diagrams, datasheets and vendor documentation.
• Install, inspect, test and maintain field instrumentation and associated equipment.
• Install and connect instruments including pressure, temperature, flow and level transmitters, switches, gauges and control devices.
• Perform calibration, configuration and functional testing of field instrumentation.
• Carry out instrument loop checks and assist with functional testing of control and shutdown systems.
• Install and inspect instrument tubing, fittings, manifolds and associated components.
• Perform fault finding and troubleshooting on instrumentation and control circuits.
• Check instrument installation against approved drawings, specifications and project standards.
• Verify instrument tag numbers, ranges, settings and installation details against project documentation.
• Assist with testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities as required.
• Record calibration and testing results accurately and complete relevant inspection and test documentation.
• Identify and report defective, damaged or non-conforming instruments, equipment and materials.
• Use calibration equipment, test instruments, hand tools and power tools safely and correctly.
• Coordinate with electricians, mechanical trades, commissioning personnel, supervisors and other disciplines to complete instrumentation activities safely and efficiently.
• Maintain good housekeeping and ensure work areas remain clean and safe.
• Participate in pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and other project safety activities.
• Follow all site Health, Safety, Security and Environment requirements.
• Carry out other reasonable duties as directed by the Instrumentation Supervisor or Superintendent.

Qualifications & Experience Candidates should ideally have:

• Recognised trade qualification, technical certificate or vocational training in instrumentation, electrical/instrumentation, electronics or a related discipline.
• Previous experience as an Instrument Technician within LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, mining, processing or major industrial construction projects.
• Experience with the installation, calibration, testing and maintenance of field instrumentation.
• Good knowledge of pressure, temperature, flow and level instrumentation.
• Experience with instrument tubing, impulse lines, manifolds and associated fittings.
• Ability to read and understand P&IDs, instrument loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, datasheets and wiring diagrams.
• Experience using instrument calibration and electronic test equipment.
• Understanding of instrument loop checking, functional testing and commissioning processes.
• Knowledge of control valves, actuators and associated instrumentation would be advantageous.
• Familiarity with industrial control systems, including DCS, PLC, ESD and Fire & Gas systems, would be highly regarded.
• Understanding of hazardous area requirements and practices would be advantageous.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multicultural and multidisciplinary project team.
• Previous LNG or major oil & gas project experience will be highly regarded.

Mandatory Requirements Applicants must:

• Be a Papua New Guinea Citizen / National.
• Hold valid identification and supporting documentation confirming PNG citizenship.
• Hold relevant trade, technical or competency certificates where applicable.
• Be willing to work at designated project locations within Papua New Guinea.
• Be willing and able to work the project roster and scheduled working hours.
• Be medically fit to perform the inherent requirements of the role and successfully complete applicable pre-employment medical requirements.
• Comply with all project alcohol and other drug, safety, security and site access requirements.
