Position Title: JS.FIN.009 Reconciliation Officer
Grade: NJS 12

The National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS) has initiated a major organisational restructure to strengthen its workforce and enhance the delivery of efficient, effective, and quality support services to the Judiciary and courts throughout Papua New Guinea. We invite suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Papua New Guineans to apply for the position of Reconciliation Officer within the Accounts unit based in Waigani.

Role Overview:

To ensure the accuracy and consistency of Judiciary’s financial records by systematically comparing transaction records, identifying discrepancies, and resolving any differences. This role is crucial in maintaining the financial integrity of the organization and supporting accurate financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily reconciliation of accounts receivable and payable, bank statements, and ledger entries.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records, including unmatched transactions and balance issues.
  • Prepare reconciliation reports, highlighting issues and actions taken.
  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
  • Coordinate with external partners, such as banks and vendors, to resolve reconciliation discrepancies.
  • Update and maintain reconciliation records and documentation for audit purposes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to improve reconciliation processes.
  • Provide training and support to finance department staff on reconciliation best practices.
  • Participate in the monthly and yearly closing process to ensure accurate financial statements.
  • Utilize financial software and systems to streamline reconciliation activities.
  • All other duties as directed by authority in relation to and as applicable to the position.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • At least 4 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role with a focus on reconciliation.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and financial reconciliation processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Integrity and professionalism in handling sensitive financial information.
  • Proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and process improvement.
Preferred
  • Advanced certification in accounting or finance (CPAPNG certified).
  • Bachelors in finance or accounting or related field.
  • 4 years or more experience in a finance or accounting role with a focus on reconciliation.
This Reconciliation Officer role requires sound judgement, adaptability, and a consistent commitment to professional service. The successful applicant will be expected to meet the role's operational demands, including absence of an electronic records management system.
