Position Title: JS.LIB.019 Cataloguer
Grade: NJS 11
The National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS) has initiated a major organisational restructure to strengthen its workforce and enhance the delivery of efficient, effective, and quality support services to the Judiciary and courts throughout Papua New Guinea. We invite suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Papua New Guineans to apply for the position of Cataloguer within the Library unit based in Waigani.
Role Overview:
The Cataloguer supports the Deputy Librarian by enhancing access to legal resources by maintaining an up-to-date catalogue of electronic and print materials for the Court Library, supporting the judiciary’s need for timely and efficient information retrieval.

The Cataloguer supports the Deputy Librarian by enhancing access to legal resources by maintaining an up-to-date catalogue of electronic and print materials for the Court Library, supporting the judiciary’s need for timely and efficient information retrieval.
Key Responsibilities
- Catalogue new library acquisitions using the Liberty Library Management System.
- Update existing catalogue records to ensure accuracy and relevancy.
- Assign appropriate metadata, keywords, and classifications to materials.
- Work closely with the Deputy Librarian to prioritize cataloguing tasks.
- Collaborate with IT staff to troubleshoot and improve the catalogue system.
- Participate in the evaluation and selection of digital cataloguing tools.
- Provide guidance to library users on navigating the catalogue.
- Train new staff on cataloguing procedures and systems.
- Conduct regular audits of the catalogue to identify and correct discrepancies.
- Support the digital transformation initiatives by cataloguing electronic resources.
- Diploma of Library and Information.
- 3 years of cataloguing experience, preferably in an academic or legal setting.
- Strong knowledge of legal reference materials, Proficiency in cataloguing systems, Excellent research skills.
- Knowledge with the Liberty Library Management System.
- Familiarity with legal resources and terminology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to enhancing user experience.
- Adaptability to evolving technologies and practices.
- Bachelor’s Degree in library & information services, or related field.
- 3 or more years of cataloguing experience in the Liberty Library Management System.
