Position Title: JS.LIB.020 Library Assistant Technical Service
Grade: NJS 07

The National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS) has initiated a major organisational restructure to strengthen its workforce and enhance the delivery of efficient, effective, and quality support services to the Judiciary and courts throughout Papua New Guinea. We invite suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Papua New Guineans to apply for the position of Library Assistant Technical Service within the Library unit based in Waigani.

Role Overview:

The Library Assistant Technical Service is essential for the court library, focusing on the technical side of things like basic cataloguing and record-keeping. The role ensures legal materials are acquired smoothly, catalogued correctly, and kept in good order, helping the court library offer easy-to-find resources for its users.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute library acquisition procedures including ordering, receiving, and processing new materials.
  • Perform elementary cataloguing of library materials and ensure their accurate entry into the library’s automated database.
  • Identify and resolve procedural issues, proposing improvements to streamline operations.
  • Maintain comprehensive administrative records and files, ensuring their organization and accessibility.
  • Provide routine technical assistance and make decisions to support library operations.
  • Collaborate with the Cataloguer and other library staff to support broader library goals.
  • Assist in the training of new staff on technical procedures and database management.
  • Monitor the library’s technical needs and report on requirements or issues to the Cataloguer.
  • Engage in the continuous learning of library systems and technologies to enhance service provision.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and updating of electronic resources and their access points.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Diploma of Library and Information.
  • Minimum of 3 years in library technical service or related field.
  • Proficiency in library database software and cataloguing systems.
  • Effective problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Adaptability to change.
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, or related field.
  • 3 or more years in library technical services.
