Position Title: JS.REG.009 Sheriff Trust Account Officer
Grade NJS 08

The National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS) has initiated a major organisational restructure to strengthen its workforce and enhance the delivery of efficient, effective, and quality support services to the Judiciary and courts throughout Papua New Guinea. We invite suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Papua New Guineans to apply for the position of Sheriff Trust Account Officer within the Registrar’s Office based in Waigani.

Role Overview:

The Sheriff Trust Account Officer supports the comprehensive management and oversight of the Sheriff’s trust accounts within the National and Supreme Courts. The role contributes to accurate and compliant financial transactions, reporting, audit readiness, record integrity, and continuous improvement of trust account financial processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in processing and managing financial transactions related to Sheriff trust accounts accurately and in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Support detailed financial record keeping and preparation of regular financial statements.
  • Contribute to financial analysis and reporting to the OIC Trust Accountant and other stakeholders.
  • Help ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with legal staff and other departments to support comprehensive financial management of court matters.
  • Participate in financial audits and help implement recommendations and corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing and improving financial policies and procedures for trust account operations.
  • Provide efficient, courteous, and timely service to internal and external customers.
  • Assist with Auditor General queries concerning trust account matters.
  • Maintain accurate records of monies, receipts, payments, cheque transactions, and supporting orders.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of experience in financial management or accounting, with a focus on trust accounts or legal financial operations.
  • Understanding of financial regulations, compliance requirements, and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems.
Preferred
  • Advanced Diploma in Business, Finance, or related fields.
  • Experience in the legal or judicial sector, particularly in managing financial aspects of court trust accounts.
This role requires strong financial discipline, confidentiality, integrity, and attention to detail to support compliant and effective management of the Sheriff’s trust accounts.
