The National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS) has initiated a major organisational restructure to strengthen its workforce and enhance the delivery of efficient, effective, and quality support services to the Judiciary and courts throughout Papua New Guinea. We invite suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Papua New Guineans to apply for the position of Sheriff Training Officer within the Registry Training unit based in Waigani.

Role Overview:
The Sheriff Training Officer plays a vital role in the judiciary's training structure, focusing on enhancing the capabilities of sheriff's division personnel through targeted programs. Reporting to the Training Coordinator - Process & Practices, the responsibilities include improving court order enforcement, ensuring court security, delivering courtroom services, and facilitating effective liaison activities. The primary objective is to ensure the sheriff’s staff excel in operational roles while upholding legal compliance and professionalism. This position aims to bridge knowledge and skills gaps, preparing personnel to meet evolving judiciary demands effectively and ethically.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct needs assessments to identify specific training requirements within the sheriff's division.
• Develop and update training curricula that address identified needs, focusing on the application of laws, security protocols, and effective communication.
• Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars for sheriff's division personnel.
• Implement evaluation tools to measure training effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with legal experts and law enforcement professionals to ensure training content is accurate and up to date.
• Manage the logistics of training delivery, including scheduling, materials preparation, and venue arrangements.
• Provide one-on-one coaching and support to staff in need of additional assistance.
• Prepare reports on training activities, outcomes, and recommendations for future training initiatives.
• Encourage feedback from participants to enhance future training sessions.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Tertiary Diploma in education.
• Certification in law enforcement training.
• Minimum of 3 years in law enforcement training or a related field.
• Working knowledge needed: Sufficient familiarity with law enforcement principles, especially as they relate to the functions and duties of sheriff's personnel.
• General knowledge needed: A solid understanding of legal procedures, courtroom processes, and security protocols within the judicial system.
• Thorough knowledge needed: In-depth knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design, specifically tailored to law enforcement training.
• Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
• Effective interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Proficiency in the use of training technologies and educational software.
• High ethical standards and integrity.
• Strong leadership and motivational skills.
• Adaptability to rapidly changing legal and procedural environments.

Preferred

• Degree in Education, or related field with a focus on law enforcement training.
• Proven experience in developing and delivering training programs in a judiciary or law enforcement setting, with specific expertise in sheriff's operations.
