Position Title: JS.SAM.088 Courtroom Attendant
Grade: NJS 06
The National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS) has initiated a major organisational restructure to strengthen its workforce and enhance the delivery of efficient, effective, and quality support services to the Judiciary and courts throughout Papua New Guinea. We invite suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Papua New Guineans to apply for the position of Courtroom Attendant within the Courtroom Services unit based in Waigani.
Role Overview:
The Courtroom Attendant plays a crucial role within the Courtroom Services unit of the Supreme and National Court of Papua New Guinea, focusing on supporting courtroom operations through logistical and physical setup. This position ensures that the environment of the court is conducive to efficient and orderly proceedings, directly contributing to the integrity of the legal process. The Courtroom Attendant aids in providing the necessary support to all court participants, reinforcing the justice system's commitment to accessibility and fairness.

Key Responsibilities
- Arrange courtroom furniture and equipment prior to the commencement of each session.
- Distribute and collect legal documents to and from participants as directed.
- Set up, test, and manage audio-visual and other courtroom technologies.
- Provide assistance to participants entering and exiting the courtroom and those with special needs.
- Ensure the courtroom is kept clean and orderly before, during, and after proceedings.
- Report any issues with courtroom facilities or equipment to the Senior Courtroom Attendant immediately.
- Assist in the enforcement of courtroom decorum and compliance with courtroom protocols.
- Act as a liaison for communication between participants and the Senior Courtroom Attendant as needed.
- Participate in the training of new attendants and in briefing sessions for courtroom procedures.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Diploma in Communication.
- No specific requirement, but experience in a courtroom or legal setting is an advantage.
- Basic understanding of courtroom procedures and legal document handling.
- Familiarity with the operational needs and equipment commonly used in courtrooms.
- Proficiency in managing multiple tasks efficiently under pressure.
- Organizational and multitasking skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Basic technical proficiency with courtroom technologies.
- Reliability.
- Adaptability.
- Proactive Problem-Solving Attitude.
- Confidentiality.
- Tertiary certificate relevant to this position.
- Prior experience in a courtroom or similar legal setting.
