Position Title: JS.SCT.027 Assistant Prison Liaison Officer Highlands & Momase

The National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS) has initiated a major organisational restructure to strengthen its workforce and enhance the delivery of efficient, effective, and quality support services to the Judiciary and courts throughout Papua New Guinea. We invite suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated Papua New Guineans to apply for the position of Assistant Prison Liaison Officer Highlands & Momase within the Crimes unit based in Waigani.

Role Overview:
The Assistant Prisons Liaison Officer is responsible for providing support to the Prison Liaison Officer in managing the communication and coordination efforts between the Supreme Court Crimes Registry and prison facilities. This role assists in ensuring that all legal and procedural requirements are met efficiently and effectively, supporting the operational aspects of criminal cases involving incarcerated individuals. The Assistant Prisons Liaison Officer facilitates the smooth administration of justice by aiding in the liaison between the court, prison officials, and other legal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Communication Efforts: Assist in maintaining effective communication channels between the Supreme Court Crimes Registry and prison facilities, ensuring clarity and accuracy in all exchanges.
  • Logistics Coordination Support: Provide support in organizing transport and ensuring the security of inmates for court appearances, including liaising with relevant parties.
  • Document Handling Assistance: Help in the processing and exchange of legal documents, ensuring all paperwork is accurately completed and compliant with court and legal standards.
  • Court Listings Assistance: Aid in the organization and management of court listings for incarcerated individuals, ensuring timely scheduling and adherence to court timelines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Support: Assist in maintaining relationships with prison officials, law enforcement, and other stakeholders, facilitating effective case management.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Support the Prison Liaison Officer in compiling reports and maintaining accurate records of liaison activities and case progress.
  • Emergency Response Assistance: Provide assistance in handling urgent issues related to the court and prison administration as needed.
  • Professional Development: Engage in training and development activities to enhance knowledge and skills relevant to the assistant prison’s liaison role.
  • Compliance and Monitoring Support: Help monitor activities for compliance with court rules, legal standards, and procedural requirements.
  • Administrative Support: Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the effective functioning of the prison liaison role.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • A Diploma in legal studies or related field.
  • 3 years plus experience in the Court Registry.
  • Sound knowledge of Court Registry operations, practices and procedures.
  • The Officer must have a strong understanding of the legal system, including the structure, functions, and processes of the judiciary.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills are also important for collaborating with stakeholders, such as judges, court administrators, and other government officials.
Preferred
  • A Certificate in Court Administration or related field would be an advantage.
  • At least 3 year’s relevant experience, in correctional services, criminal justice and case management or a stakeholder liaison with strong communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
