Lead Electrical Project Engineer (HV Power & Transmission)
Location: UK Wide (Site Based)

We're working with a well-established engineering contractor that delivers major power infrastructure projects across the UK. With continued growth across transmission, renewables and grid connections, they're looking to bring in an experienced Lead Electrical Project Engineer to strengthen their delivery team.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being close to the work, leading from the front and taking ownership of projects on site.

You'll be involved in the delivery of HV projects ranging from 11kV through to 400kV, working alongside project managers, construction teams, commissioning engineers and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standards.

The Role As the Lead Electrical Project Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership throughout the construction and commissioning phases of major infrastructure projects.

You'll be the go-to person for electrical construction activities on site, ensuring works are completed in line with approved designs, safety requirements and programme commitments.

The role will suit someone who has spent time working within live substation environments and is comfortable managing technical issues, contractor performance and stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical construction activities across HV and transmission projects.
  • Support projects from design development through to commissioning and final handover.
  • Coordinate works within live substation environments.
  • Manage and support site teams and subcontractors.
  • Ensure installations are delivered in line with engineering standards and approved designs.
  • Act as the main technical point of contact for construction-related issues.
  • Work closely with project delivery, commissioning and design teams to keep projects on programme.
  • Support FATs, SATs and commissioning activities.
  • Review technical documentation and assist with the production of handover packs and as-built records.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during construction.
  • Attend client meetings and provide technical support throughout project delivery.
  • Contribute to tender submissions by providing practical construction input and methodology advice.
What We're Looking For Essential
  • Strong experience delivering HV infrastructure or transmission projects in the UK.
  • Experience working within live substation environments from 11kV to 400kV.
  • Authorised Person experience within DNO, TSO or private network environments.
  • Good understanding of HV plant, switchgear, protection systems and substation construction.
  • Knowledge of UK safety rules and industry standards.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and site-based activities.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • Senior Authorised Person experience.
  • National Grid, DNO or renewable energy project experience.
  • Existing network operator competencies and accreditations.
  • Previous experience leading engineering teams on large infrastructure projects.
Why Consider It? This is a genuinely good opportunity to join a business with a strong pipeline of work across the energy sector.

You'll be working on high-profile grid and infrastructure projects, have a real influence on project delivery, and be part of a team that's continuing to grow as investment in the UK's power network increases.

The role would suit a Senior Project Engineer, Lead Electrical Engineer, Construction Engineer, Commissioning Engineer or Authorised Person looking for a position with greater responsibility and long-term progression.
