Mechanical Engineer

We’re recruiting a Mechanical Engineer to join the maintenance engineering team of a leading UK energy operator that produces and supplies natural gas from offshore assets in the Southern North Sea, operating critical onshore/offshore infrastructure with a strong focus on safe, reliable production and regulatory compliance.

You’ll provide mechanical engineering support to maximise the reliability, availability and performance of offshore equipment and associated systems, working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Projects and Integrity.

Location / working pattern (important)

• Applicants must be currently based in the UK and have the right to work in the UK (no sponsorship).
• Flexible UK location is fine, but you must be willing to work up to 4 days per week onsite at the Norwich office (NR7).
• Monday–Friday, office-based engineering support with occasional travel to onshore/offshore assets as required.

Key responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support across Operations, Maintenance, Projects, Integrity and Metering.
• Support shutdowns, outages and maintenance campaigns, including planning and technical input.
• Conduct / support root cause failure investigations and implement reliability improvements.
• Drive actions that reduce production losses and improve equipment performance.
• Review and optimise maintenance strategies, supporting backlog reduction and continuous improvement.
• Specify and support procurement of replacement equipment and specialist services.
• Support Management of Change (MoC) and keep technical documentation up to date.
• Manage and coordinate third-party vendors/contractors, including cost control.
• Use and maintain data within the CMMS (e.g., Maximo).
• Complete site assurance surveys (onshore/offshore) and provide practical guidance to technicians and junior engineers.

You’ll be supporting critical offshore mechanical systems including:

• Pumps, compressors, engines
• Valves, piping, pressure vessels
• Generator systems and associated packages

Requirements 

• Mechanical Engineering Degree / HNC / HND (or equivalent).
• Experience in oil & gas or another highly regulated industry.
• Strong knowledge of offshore mechanical equipment and maintenance practices.
• Proven experience supporting rotating and static equipment.
• Understanding of hazardous area equipment and MoC processes.
• Experience with CMMS systems (Maximo preferred).
• Safety-led mindset, proactive approach, and strong stakeholder communication.
