Protection & Control Technician
Remote | Nationwide Travel Required
We are partnering with a growing engineering and field services organization looking to expand its Protection & Control team across the United States.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on P&C professional who enjoys relay testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and working on critical power infrastructure. Projects will include data centers, utility substations, industrial facilities, renewable energy sites and EPC developments.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform P&C testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup activities.
• Test and commission protective relays, control systems, and associated substation equipment.
• Support utility, industrial, renewable energy, and data center power projects.
• Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, protection drawings, and AC/DC elementary drawings.
• Troubleshoot relay logic, control wiring, communications, and protection schemes.
• Support SCADA checkout, RTU commissioning, and point-to-point verification where required.
• Coordinate with customers, engineers, contractors, and field teams to deliver projects safely and successfully.
• Support outage planning, commissioning documentation, and field reporting.
What We’re Looking For
• 3+ years of Protection & Control, relay testing, or substation commissioning experience.
• Hands-on experience testing protective relays using equipment such as Doble, Omicron, Megger, or similar.
• Ability to read electrical drawings and troubleshoot protection and control systems.
• Experience working within utility substations, electrical power systems, or similar critical power environments.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in the field.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
Preferred Experience
• Experience with SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, Beckwith, or Basler relays.
• SCADA or RTU commissioning experience.
• Utility, renewable energy, industrial, EPC, or data center project experience.
• Previous experience leading technicians or field activities.
• NETA certification or relevant electrical training, although neither is required.
