Senior Aboriginal Affairs Advisor

We are seeking a Senior Aboriginal Affairs Advisor to join out global oil and gas client on an initial 6-month contract with possible extension. The role will provide additional capacity across a broad portfolio of Aboriginal Affairs workstreams, with a particular focus on RAP implementation, internal engagement and strategic project support including document writing. Working closely with the Lead Aboriginal Affairs and key internal business stakeholders, the consultant will support strengthening program delivery capability, and the successful implementation of priority Aboriginal Affairs initiatives during a period of significant organisational demand.

Key Responsibilities:
RAP Delivery

• Support implementation of the Stretch RAP 2026-2029 and development of associated action plans.
• Coordinate information requests from business units to support RAP implementation activities.

Strategic advice & document development

• Assist with preparation of briefing notes, presentations, reports, strategy and policy documents.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of Aboriginal Affairs governance frameworks and processes.

Aboriginal Affairs Program Delivery

• Contribute to delivery of Indigenous employment and supplier diversity initiatives.
• Support implementation of cultural awareness and cultural capability programs.
• Support delivery of broader social performance and ESG-related initiatives where required.

Project and Program Delivery Support

• Provide project coordination support across Aboriginal Affairs initiatives and special projects.
• Undertake research, benchmarking and data analysis to support decision making and continuous improvement.
• Monitor project milestones, deliverables and action items.
• Provide flexible support across the Aboriginal Affairs portfolio in response to business priorities as directed by the Lead Aboriginal Affairs Advisor. 

Skills/Experience:

• Demonstrated experience working in Aboriginal Affairs, Indigenous Engagement, Community Relations, Social Performance, Sustainability, ESG, or a related field.
• Understanding of reconciliation, Indigenous engagement, and Aboriginal Affairs frameworks within corporate or government environments.
• Experience supporting governance, reporting, and program delivery activities.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
• Excellent written communication skills, including report and policy writing.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Desirable Experience:

• Experience supporting Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs).
• Understanding of Indigenous employment, supplier diversity, and cultural capability programs.
• Experience within the resources, energy, infrastructure, or government sectors.
