Senior Mechanic

Position Summary

The Senior Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and reliability of oilfield equipment used  production and field service operations. The role provides technical leadership to mechanics and apprentices while ensuring equipment is maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. The Senior Mechanic supports field operations across Lloydminster and surrounding areas, minimizing equipment downtime and ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair

• Perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy-duty oilfield equipment, including:
  • Diesel engines
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Pumps and fluid handling equipment
  • Generators and power systems
• Conduct preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Complete emergency repairs to support continuous field operations.
• Ensure all equipment is maintained according to manufacturer and company standards.

Leadership & Mentorship

• Provide guidance, coaching, and technical support to mechanics and apprentices.
• Assist in organizing daily shop activities and maintenance priorities.
• Support training and development initiatives for maintenance personnel.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Safety & Compliance

• Adhere to all company, provincial, and federal safety regulations.
• Participate in hazard assessments, safety meetings, and incident investigations.
• Ensure equipment inspections meet regulatory and company requirements.
• Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and repair records.
• Promote safe work practices and proper use of tools and equipment.

Operational Support

• Coordinate with operations personnel to schedule repairs and maintenance activities.
• Respond to field service calls and breakdowns as required.
• Support asset reliability programs and fleet management initiatives.
• Recommend equipment upgrades and improvements to increase performance and reduce downtime.

Qualifications
Education

• Journeyman Automotive,  Heavy Duty or equivalent Red Seal certification preferred.
• Other recognized mechanical trade certifications will be considered.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy oilfield operations, or industrial mechanical maintenance.
• Experience with oilfield service equipment machinery is required.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of:
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Electrical troubleshooting
  • Welding and fabrication practices
  • Preventative maintenance programs
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service documentation.
• Proficiency with maintenance management systems and computerized diagnostics.

Required Certifications

• Valid Class 5 Driver's License (Class 1 or 3 considered an asset).
• H2S Alive.
• Standard First Aid/CPR.
• WHMIS.
• CSTS or equivalent safety certification.
