About the Opportunity
NES Fircroft is a leading global workforce solutions provider specializing in engineering and technical talent across the energy and industrial sectors. We partner with organizations delivering critical infrastructure projects across North America, connecting skilled professionals with opportunities that support the safe and reliable movement of energy.
Our client, a nationally recognized engineering, procurement, and construction organization, is seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Designer to support the design and development of electrical and instrumentation systems for pipeline facilities, pump stations, meter stations, compressor stations, and other midstream infrastructure projects. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity offering the chance to work on high-profile energy projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.

About the Job
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation Designer with a strong background in industrial facility design and drafting. The successful candidate will support the development of construction-ready electrical and instrumentation drawing packages, working closely with engineers, designers, project managers, and field personnel throughout the project lifecycle.
The role requires a strong understanding of electrical power distribution, instrumentation systems, hazardous area classifications, and industry design standards. The successful candidate will contribute to projects from initial design development through construction support while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable codes and client requirements.

The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the E&I Designer will support electrical and instrumentation design activities for pipeline, pump station, meter station, compressor station, and related facility projects. This individual will be responsible for preparing detailed design drawings, wiring diagrams, installation details, and construction documentation while coordinating with internal engineering teams and external vendors to deliver complete project packages.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop detailed electrical and instrumentation design drawings for midstream and industrial facility projects.
  • Prepare plans, elevations, sections, details, wiring diagrams, and installation drawings that clearly communicate construction requirements.
  • Support engineers and lead designers in the development of project design concepts and deliverables.
  • Review and verify drawing packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Incorporate vendor drawings, equipment information, and technical documentation into project design packages.
  • Apply National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and assist with electrical equipment and circuit sizing calculations.
  • Develop wiring and installation details for instrumentation devices, control systems, motor-operated valves, junction boxes, pull boxes, panels, and associated field equipment.
  • Prepare conduit and cable routing designs while coordinating space limitations and constructability requirements.
  • Support hazardous-area electrical designs, including Class I Division 1 and Class I Division 2 installations.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure proper integration of electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Participate in site visits and field walks to collect information, verify existing conditions, and support project execution.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of project drawing standards and best practices.
  • Support construction and commissioning activities by responding to design-related questions and providing technical clarification.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and drawing records throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform additional design and drafting responsibilities as required to support project objectives.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of electrical and instrumentation design experience supporting industrial facilities and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience producing I&E design and drafting packages for facilities such as meter stations, pump stations, compressor stations, launcher and receiver sites, mainline valve locations, and related infrastructure.
  •  Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
  • Experience supporting engineering and construction projects within the oil & gas, midstream, industrial, or EPC sectors.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required for field data collection and project support activities.
Technical Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation design principles for industrial facilities.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and related design tools.
  • Understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and electrical design methodologies.
  • Experience with hazardous location electrical systems and area classifications.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation systems, field devices, PLC hardware, and industrial control systems.
  • Experience designing systems involving large motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control centers (MCCs), grounding, lighting, and raceway systems.
  • Ability to develop electrical equipment layouts, conduit routing plans, wiring diagrams, and installation details.
  • Familiarity with Class I Division 1 and Class I Division 2 design requirements.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and recommended practices, including API RP 500 and other applicable codes.
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards, quality control processes, and document management procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with engineering, construction, operations, and vendor stakeholders.
Additional Experience Considered an Advantage
  • Experience supporting EPC project execution within the midstream oil & gas industry.
  • Experience conducting field verification and as-built documentation activities.
  • Familiarity with compressor station, pump station, terminal, and pipeline facility design.
  • Exposure to construction support, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Experience integrating vendor packages and skid-mounted equipment into facility designs.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment procurement packages and technical specifications.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments supporting large capital projects.
