Construction Superintendent II

Location: Edmonton, AB (Primary Site) with travel throughout Western Canada
Term: Approximately 12 months with potential for extension
Schedule: 4 days on / 3 days off, 10-hour days (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM)
 
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent II with a strong Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) background to support capital projects within industrial and manufacturing environments. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing day-to-day field construction activities while ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and within project scope.
The successful candidate will provide leadership to contractors and field crews, manage construction execution activities, and serve as a key interface between site operations and project leadership teams. The position will primarily support work at a major refinery site in the Edmonton area but will also require travel to various project locations across Western Canada.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and control daily construction activities for assigned contractors and trades.
• Execute construction activities in accordance with project scope, schedules, specifications, and quality standards.
• Interpret engineering drawings, plans, and technical specifications.
• Monitor project scope, schedule, productivity, and budget performance.
• Lead and supervise contractor workforces during project execution.
• Ensure compliance with site safety standards and champion worker safety initiatives.
• Coordinate construction, fabrication, installation, and hookup activities.
• Act as a key member of the project team, supporting project execution and completion objectives.
• Serve as the primary interface between field operations and construction management.
• Respond to client and field information requests in a timely manner.
• Support construction planning, execution, commissioning, and completion activities.
• Oversee operation and maintenance activities associated with construction equipment where required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of construction supervision experience within industrial environments.
• Proven experience as a Construction Superintendent on major capital projects.
• Strong background in Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) construction.
• Experience supervising contractors and managing multiple work fronts.
• Demonstrated ability to manage safety, production, and schedule performance.
• Experience working with multi-discipline engineering and project teams.
• Familiarity with construction materials testing procedures and ASTM standards.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a dynamic project environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel throughout Western Canada as project requirements dictate.

Preferred Experience

• Refinery, petrochemical, oil and gas, power generation, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial facility experience.
• Experience working in operating facilities and brownfield environments.
• Background as a certified tradesperson in an electrical discipline is considered a strong asset.
• Mobility and flexibility to support projects at multiple site locations.
