Senior Welding Engineer (Remote - U.S.) 

About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior Welding Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team supporting advanced welded product design, manufacturing, and nuclear industry applications. This position offers the opportunity to lead welding engineering initiatives, provide technical oversight, develop innovative welding solutions, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, and project management.

The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader, driving welding process development, metallurgical analysis, product improvements, and project execution while supporting both existing and new product development programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop welding designs, procedures, and manufacturing processes for existing and new products.
  • Create and mature welded component design concepts from initial development through implementation.
  • Perform metallurgical analysis and evaluation of weldments, with a focus on austenitic stainless steel applications.
  • Provide technical expertise in welding processes, including:
    • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
    • Resistance Welding
  • Collaborate within a matrixed engineering environment to deliver high-quality solutions that meet customer requirements, regulatory expectations, and business objectives.
  • Support engineering teams with weld joint design, manufacturability reviews, risk assessment, and root cause analysis.
  • Provide technical support to sourcing teams during fabricator evaluations and supplier engagements.
  • Troubleshoot welding-related issues and drive implementation of corrective actions.
  • Prepare invention disclosures and support intellectual property protection initiatives.
  • Develop project schedules, work estimates, and resource plans for welding engineering activities.
  • Lead and mentor welding engineering personnel by assigning work, tracking progress, communicating updates, and escalating risks as needed.
  • Partner with project managers, design engineers, sourcing teams, equipment manufacturers, and engineering leadership to achieve project objectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing, industrial, power generation, or related technical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • ASME BPVC Section III Division 1
    • ASME Section IX
    • AWS A2.4
    • AWS A3.0
  • Experience with welding metallurgy and welded component design.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in technical engineering projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience analyzing and resolving moderately complex engineering and design challenges.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical information to engineers, project managers, leadership teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience writing engineering specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with the metallurgy of:
    • Carbon steels
    • Low-alloy steels
    • Nickel alloys
    • Zirconium
    • Aluminum alloys
  • Experience with additional welding processes:
    • GMAW
    • FCAW
    • SMAW
    • LBW
  • Knowledge of:
    • ASME BPVC Section III Division V
    • ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 1
    • AWS D1.1
    • AWS D1.6
  • Experience supporting BWR or PWR nuclear industry projects is highly desirable.
