Role Overview We are seeking a Senior Python Developer to support the design, development, testing, and delivery of the Deal Entry Portal (DEP). The role will help automate the entry of exchange-traded deals into Shell’s Enterprise Risk Management Systems, improving the speed and accuracy of trade capture, management information, and P&L reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and release new DEP features.
  • Build and maintain object-oriented Python APIs.
  • Contribute to large-scale application architecture, technical design, and development projects.
  • Design and test solutions for distributed asynchronous systems, including mechanisms to prevent data conflicts in immutable, multi-machine environments.
  • Work with SQL databases and Oracle to support reliable application data management.
  • Develop and support applications using technologies including Docker, Kafka, Kubernetes, Microsoft Azure or AWS, and GitHub.
  • Provide expertise in message broker technologies such as RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or AWS SQS.
  • Diagnose and resolve functional and technical issues across assigned applications and infrastructure.
  • Provide workarounds and bug fixes for urgent production incidents.
  • Create test scripts, develop automation, and provide project guidance, planning support, and implementation oversight.
  • Apply DevOps principles and support continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with the lead functional developer and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support junior team members.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Strong commercial experience developing APIs using Python and object-oriented programming.
  • Demonstrable understanding of distributed, asynchronous systems and strategies for maintaining data consistency and avoiding conflicts.
  • Experience with SQL databases and Oracle.
  • Hands-on experience with containers, orchestration, messaging, and cloud technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Azure, or AWS.
  • Experience with GitHub or comparable source-control platforms.
  • Excellent coding, testing, automation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with at least one strongly typed programming language.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD, and automated software delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly when working with business stakeholders and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently, deliver against agreed outcomes, and take ownership of technical solutions.
  • Experience mentoring junior developers.
