About the Opportunity Our client, a leading organisation delivering major rail infrastructure projects in the UK, is seeking a Structures Design Engineer - Civil & Track Interface to join their growing engineering team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the integration of civil structures and railway track systems on a large-scale infrastructure programme. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will support the coordination and management of interfaces between structures such as bridges, viaducts, tunnels and earthworks, and track systems, ensuring designs are coordinated, buildable and aligned with project requirements.

The successful candidate will work closely with design, construction and stakeholder teams to resolve technical challenges, manage interfaces and contribute to the successful delivery of complex engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the coordination and integration of interfaces between railway track systems and civil structures.
  • Assist in the review of structural movements, tolerances and interface details, identifying potential risks and constraints.
  • Work closely with design teams to ensure compatibility between track and civil engineering elements.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical workshops and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Interface Control Documents (ICDs), interface registers and associated documentation.
  • Monitor interface actions and facilitate timely resolution of technical issues.
  • Prepare meeting notes, technical summaries and coordination records to support effective communication.
  • Contribute to the identification of opportunities to improve safety, buildability, quality and project efficiency.
  • Assist with risk identification, reporting and mitigation related to track and structure integration.
  • Ensure interface activities remain aligned with programme milestones and project objectives.
  • Liaise with consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders to resolve engineering issues.
  • Provide technical support during design development, construction and project handover phases.
  • Support monitoring and assurance activities, including review of instrumentation and monitoring data where required.
  • Promote high standards of health, safety and environmental awareness across all activities.
  • Attend meetings and workshops across project locations as required.
Candidate Requirements

Essential
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience within civil engineering, structures, geotechnical engineering or major infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of structural behaviour, movements and tolerances associated with bridges, viaducts and other civil assets.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and interface details.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and priorities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Collaborative approach with experience working within multidisciplinary project teams.
Desirable
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Experience on major rail or transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of track systems, track design, construction support, or railway infrastructure delivery.
  • Familiarity with interface management processes, including ICDs, risk management and change control procedures.
  • Understanding of Eurocodes and UK design standards.
  • Experience of BIM, digital engineering or 3D design coordination processes.
  • Knowledge of high-speed rail or large-scale infrastructure programme standards would be advantageous.
