An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Boiler Specialist / Combustion Engineer to support a critical safety review of boiler protection settings for a large-scale power generation facility. This engagement focuses on ensuring protection systems are aligned with the Boiler Safe Operating Envelope and fully compliant with NFPA 85 standards.


About the Role
This is a highly specialized role requiring deep technical expertise in boiler processes, protection systems, and transient analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting a comprehensive technical assessment of boiler protection settings
  • Validating alignment with NFPA 85 (Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code)
  • Performing advanced analysis and simulation of transient conditions, including:

  • Load cutbacks
  • Furnace pressure high/high (HH) and low/low (LL) excursions
  • Feedwater flow low/low (LL) conditions

  • Reviewing and optimizing protection setpoints to ensure safe and reliable operation
  • Providing technical recommendations based on simulation results and industry best practice
  • Supporting documentation and reporting for safety compliance and audit purposes


Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline


Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Boiler Specialist, Combustion Engineer, or similar role in power generation
  • Demonstrable expertise in:
  • NFPA 85 audits and compliance
  • Boiler protection systems and process safety
  • Transient simulation and dynamic process analysis
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Boiler operating envelopes and combustion control systems
  • Furnace pressure and feedwater protection philosophies
  • Prior experience conducting technical safety assessments for large-scale industrial boiler systems

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working on coal-fired or large utility boilers
  • Familiarity with advanced simulation tools or dynamic modelling software
  • Previous engagement in safety-critical or compliance-driven projects
