Role Summary
The Commissioning Coordinator is responsible for end-to-end coordination of commissioning and startup activities for liquid pipelines and gas transmission projects. This role is hands-on and execution-focused, requiring deep field experience and the ability to independently perform commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup work.
The position bridges engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations, ensuring equipment is safe, compliant, and fully operational before turnover. Key Responsibilities

Commissioning & Startup Execution
- Coordinate and execute project commissioning and startup activities
- Lead field commissioning for small to large projects
- Independently perform in-house commissioning for smaller projects:
- Configuration
- Calibration
- Functional testing
- Startup & troubleshooting
- Ensure proper handover from Construction → Commissioning → Operations
- Track deficiencies and close commissioning issues
- Participate in engineering design reviews (mechanical, process, electrical, I&C)
- Update commissioning procedures, check sheets, and best practices
- Commission and test:
- PLCs
- Instrumentation
- Control panels
- Communication systems
- Apply hands-on experience with rotating and static equipment
- Develop commissioning and startup execution plans:
- Resources
- Cost estimates
- Schedules
- Coordinate internal technicians and 3rd‑party commissioning contractors
- Provide technical guidance and field leadership
- Manage outage planning for greenfield and brownfield projects
- Work across multiple projects simultaneously
- Ensure all work follows Enbridge processes and industry standards
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Lock‑Out / Tag‑Out (LOTO)
- Electrical Safety
- Permitting
- Enforce quality, cost, scope, and schedule expectations
Education & Experience
- Technical College Degree or Diploma
- 10+ years of technical field experience
- Prior experience as a field technician or commissioning engineer
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards:
- API
- NEC
- CEC
- CSA Z662
- NFPA 11
- Hands-on commissioning of electrical, instrumentation, automation, and controls
- Ability to self-perform commissioning without supervision
- Excellent stakeholder coordination and communication
- Ability to independently lead field activities
- Comfortable working under tight deadlines and operational pressure
- Strong interpersonal skills across project teams and contractors
- Prior commissioning experience in oil & gas / pipeline environments
- Experience with both rotating and static equipment
- Pipeline, gas transmission, or major energy infrastructure background
- Office-based with frequent field travel
- Extended hours and after-hours support as needed
- Weekend or evening calls during critical commissioning windows (approx. 5–10 times per quarter)
