NES Fircroft have partnered with a global energy major and one of Australia’s leading onshore gas operators, recognised for delivering large-scale, complex upstream projects and driving innovation across the energy sector. A brand new opportunity is available for an experienced Concept Engineer to join a high-performing Front End Engineering team based in Brisbane. This role is ideally suited to an engineer who enjoys early-phase development work and wants to play a key role in shaping facility concepts from opportunity framing through to concept selection and FEED.

About the Role

As a Concept Engineer, you will act as a key contributor within the Front End Engineering team, leading and supporting the development of upstream oil and gas opportunities through early-stage concept evaluation and design.

You will work across multidisciplinary teams to mature development options, influence key project decisions, and ensure robust technical and commercial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to early-phase engineering studies from initiation through to concept selection and FEED
  • Plan, execute and deliver technical study work, coordinating inputs from multiple engineering disciplines
  • Collaborate with Petroleum Engineering teams to identify optimal facility designs for resource monetisation
  • Work closely with Operations and Maintenance teams to improve safety outcomes and optimise existing facilities
  • Provide technical insight and engineering input to support key development decisions
  • Support development of project execution strategies, including cost and schedule assumptions
  • Review operator proposals in joint venture environments and engage with external partners
  • Prepare and coordinate key project documentation including Basis of Design, Concept Select Reports and pre-FEED deliverables
  • Ensure compliance with HSSE and technical assurance requirements during early project phases
About You
  • Degree-qualified in Engineering (Process, Petroleum, Mechanical or similar)
  • Proven experience in facilities engineering within an operating oil and gas environment
  • Strong background in concept development, feasibility studies and early-stage project delivery
  • Experience with cost estimation inputs and project scoping
  • Exposure to onshore gas or CSG developments is highly regarded
Key Skills & Experience
  • Solid understanding of oil and gas production facilities and flow assurance
  • Knowledge of integrated production system modelling is advantageous
  • Strong appreciation of subsurface influences on facility design and development concepts
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including working with joint venture partners
  • Ability to manage engineering studies across internal teams and external contractors
  • Self-starter with the ability to work in complex, fast-paced project environments
