Job Title: Engineer in Training (EIT) II
Location: Edmonton, AB
Length: 1 Year (with potential extension)
Rotation: 3 days in office (Mon/Tues/Thurs) and 2 days remote (Wed/Friday)
Role Summary
This position supports and maintains existing and future External Leak Detection Systems (ELDS) installed by company TIS PCSLD Leak Detection and owned by the Facilities & HCA Leak Detection Program.
The Facilities & HCA LD Program mitigates leak risk across facilities, remote sites, and high consequence areas that do not meet internal risk targets by deploying ELDS solutions. The role works closely with stakeholders including LP Risk Management, Pipeline Integrity, and Facilities Integrity to identify priority locations and implement fit-for-purpose technologies.
Current ELDS technologies include EVTeam Hydrocarbon Sensing Cables, Hifi Engineering Fiber Optic Cable, and GE ThreatScan systems.

Key Responsibilities
System Monitoring & Reporting
- Perform daily and weekly monitoring of ELDS system performance
- Identify early indicators of performance issues that may lead to false alarms
- Collect data including alarm counts, system uptime, and outstanding/resolved issues from PI, PI Vision, Field HMIs, Hifi HDS, and ELIS UI
- Prepare and distribute performance reports to Leak Detection Management and the Facilities & HCA LD team
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Investigate and troubleshoot ELDS alarms
- Identify root causes and propose corrective solutions
- Collaborate with Field Operations, Controls/Network teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to implement fixes
- Track issues and resolutions in JIRA
- Perform system recalibration when required
Spare Inventory Management
- Maintain inventory records for sensors and equipment spares by installation site
- Coordinate ordering and delivery of spare parts with vendors, Field Operations, and internal teams
Annual Performance Testing Support
- Ensure ELDS systems comply with internal documentation and standards
- Coordinate with Field Operations to execute annual testing
- Collect and report test results (pass/fail and supporting details)
- Ensure proper documentation and storage in Maximo and JIRA
- Maintain and update PM procedures through Management of Change processes
- Support compliance audits by providing testing and commissioning records
Project Support
- Provide recommendations for system improvements and future ELDS installations
- Review and approve reliability periods for new system installations
Role Scope
- Supports reliability and performance of ELDS assets across multiple installations
- Ensures systems operate in compliance with internal standards and risk mitigation objectives
- Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and system optimization
- Works collaboratively across technical, operational, and vendor teams
Qualifications
- Engineering or Technologist degree from an accredited institution (Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred)
- EIT I, EIT II, or equivalent designation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Power BI is considered an asset)
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel requirements
- Must be able to travel to the United States
- Regular business hours schedule
