Engineering Document Control Specialist
3-6 week contract with potential for extension
$50/hr

Key Responsibilities


  • Locate and collect historical engineering documents from various physical and electronic storage locations.
  • Review, organize, and prepare paper documents for digitization.
  • Scan engineering records and verify image quality, completeness, and legibility.
  • Identify engineering document types and apply appropriate metadata and naming conventions.
  • Upload, categorize, and archive engineering documentation within the STEM database.
  • Transfer previously digitized files into STEM and ensure proper indexing and organization.
  • Follow established document control procedures and records retention requirements.
  • Coordinate with local engineering personnel, including designated site contacts, to determine proper storage and classification of documents.
  • Maintain tracking logs and status reports related to document digitization and migration activities.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews to ensure archived documents are complete, accurate, and searchable.
  • Assist with resolving document discrepancies, duplicates, and archive gaps.
  • Support temporary network and system access setup and adhere to all cybersecurity and data management requirements.
Qualifications

Required

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Engineering Technology, Technical Documentation, Information Management, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of electronic and paper records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with engineering and site personnel.
Preferred

  • Experience with document control, records management, or engineering information systems.
  • Experience digitizing and managing technical documents.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation such as:
    • P&IDs
    • Equipment drawings
    • Mechanical drawings
    • Electrical drawings
    • Inspection records
    • Engineering reports
  • Experience with document management systems, databases, or SharePoint-like platforms.
  • Experience supporting industrial, terminal, petrochemical, energy, manufacturing, or infrastructure environments.
