The Staff Engineering Technician will support civil engineering and design teams in the development of technical deliverables for Battery Energy Storage System projects. This role focuses on site drainage, grading, utility layouts, and civil site plans using Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation.
The ideal candidate will have advanced Civil 3D experience, including the development of proposed grading surfaces, plan production, and moderately complex civil design deliverables. This position requires strong technical drafting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to support quality control, document control, and design coordination across project teams.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify civil site design drawings, including grading, drainage, utility, roadway, fencing, erosion control, and site development plans.
- Use Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation to create, modify, and maintain engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation.
- Prepare proposed grading surfaces, profiles, alignments, and plan sets in support of BESS and distributed infrastructure projects.
- Review design inputs, project requirements, standards, and applicable codes to ensure consistency and compliance across deliverables.
- Apply company quality procedures, document control standards, and engineering design practices to all assigned work.
- Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and related project records.
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other discipline teams to exchange project information and support design development.
- Review drawings and deliverables prepared by others for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project standards.
- Provide technical guidance to junior technicians or design staff as needed.
- Support schedule maintenance, work assignments, and project deliverable tracking.
- Assist with field support activities, design reviews, and project coordination as required.
- Stay current with civil design tools, drafting standards, and emerging technologies related to site development and infrastructure design.
- Minimum of 5 years of related civil design, drafting, or engineering technician experience.
- Advanced experience with Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Experience developing proposed grading surfaces and civil site plans.
- Working knowledge of site drainage, grading, underground utilities, erosion control, and civil infrastructure design.
- Ability to interpret engineering design inputs, project standards, and technical requirements.
- Strong understanding of document control processes, drafting standards, and quality procedures.
- Ability to complete moderately complex technical assignments with limited supervision.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Diploma or certificate in drafting, civil design, engineering technology, or a related field.
- Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Design Technology, Civil Technology, or related discipline.
- Experience with Bentley MicroStation.
- Experience supporting Battery Energy Storage System projects, renewable energy, distributed infrastructure, substations, industrial facilities, or utility-scale site development.
- Experience reviewing deliverables and providing technical direction to other technicians or designers.
